Chelsea police officer Sammy Mojica was a recent guest speaker at the Rotary Club of Chelsea.  Officer Mojica is the Community Relations Officer for the Chelsea Police Department.   Officer Mojica spoke about several programs the Chelsea Police Department has in place to build positive community relations.  The one event the Rotarians were most interested in hearing about was how the Chelsea Police Department responded to a request by a little boy with cancer to be visited by a police officer.
The department arranged for several police cars to go to the young boy’s house with lights and sirens on.  They presented the boy with a functional miniature police car, police badge and honorary police officer certificate.  The Chelsea Police Department also operates an ice cream truck that gives out free ice cream at local public events, runs a Youth Police Initiative program, conducts a winter coat drive, organizes annual National Night Out, and participants in numerous other community events.
