Lynn Rotary recently received an update on all the activities of the Lynn Classical Interact Club.  Lynn Classical Interact Club Faculty Advisor and English teacher Lauren Jenkins reported as follows:
The Interact Club has been doing a fantastic job of keeping up with community happenings.
Our students ran a Turkey Box fundraiser, and we received 18 paper boxes that we filled with everything but the turkey. Students at Lynn Classical, who were identified by our family liaison, were able to take these boxes home to their families. We also received almost $600 in donations, so we were also able to give families gift cards to Market Basket. It was a huge success.
After that, our Interact Club worked on writing Christmas Cards to a local nursing home. We contacted them and they provided us with a list of names and the student’s hand-wrote letters. The residents were very excited to get their letters and even wrote back a lovely thank you note.
From the end of November to December Mike Curley, (a Social Studies Faculty Member) and I also ran the Coula Christmas program and provided Christmas gifts to 38 families and 90 children. Coula was our secretary who retired a few years ago.  We run this fundraiser to provide Christmas to families. The Interact Club helped wrap and organize this project with me. We raised over $5000 in cash donations and had countless sponsors and volunteers helping with this project. It was a school and community effort to make sure our students had Christmas this year.
A few of our members will be getting CPR certified in January with our nursing team. Some members will be volunteering at My Brother's Table after school in January. Pictured here are Interact Members receiving their CPR certification at Lynn Classical.
We plan to do a fundraiser for Valentine's Day and to keep up our communications with our new nursing home friends.
I have been talking up RYLA as have our members who attended last year. I hope that we can send two more students this year as the Interact Club has grown and we have a solid, young foundation.
