After almost 29 years serving the city of Lynn in the Fire Department, Chief Steve Archer has decided to retire. He was sworn in as Chief in February 2018, and gave the city 5 years as Chief. During that time, he started a Youth Fire Academy to introduce to the young people of Lynn to the possibility of becoming a Fire Fighter.

He is turning over to his replacement, Chief Daniel Sullivan, a very solid fire department. As an aside, his brother Graham is Fire Chief in Swampscott. It was the only situation in Massachusetts where brothers in adjoining communities held the position of Fire Chief simultaneously.

Chief Stephen Archer will continue as a Rotarian with the Lynn Club, he wants to continue to serve the community. He has committed to be the Chair of the Dictionary Project for the Club. The past Chair, James Harris, has retired and moved to New Hampshire. Stephen and his wife Susan have been regular volunteers with the Club since becoming a Rotarian a few years ago.
