The evening of Jun 19th at Gallina’s at MarketStreet was the site of the Lynnfield Rotary 60th Anniversary celebration reception and Presidential “gavel pass” installation.
Lynnfield Rotary Members, Interact members (young Rotarians), and guest enjoyed delicious, assorted food choices as President Christine Travers gaveled the celebratory meeting to order. After welcoming comments and a brief outline of the night’s agenda, President Christine introduced the first of the evening’s speakers, Luke Kimball, Lynnfield Rotary Past President and third generation Rotary member who represented a family steeped in Lynnfield Rotary history.
It was Luke’s grandfather John, along with local businessman Ken Worthen of fondly remembered Worthen’s Market, who founded Lynnfield Rotary in 1963. Luke related his family’s lifelong commitment to Rotary, ending his remarks by presenting a significant donation to Lynnfield Rotary from his family in honor of the milestone.
Past President, Tom Adamczyk spoke next. As a Rotary member for 35 years, he recounted his many experiences as a Rotarian, especially establishing the first Rotary Golf Tournament. After convincing many sceptics he spearheaded a very successful event which has become a staple event for Rotary ever since. Needless to say, once again Tom will head up the golf tournament this year.
The “gavel pass” this year was unique in that it is the first time Lynnfield Rotary will have Co- Presidents. Christine Travers and Jamie Booth will share the duties for the year 23 -24 beginning July 1st.
Two Paul Harris awards were presented to Ron Block and Jack Moynihan for their contributions during the year. Paul Harris was the founder of Rotary, and in his name this award was created in 1957.
Our final speakers of the evening were our immediate Past District Governor Terry Curran, who congratulated Lynnfield Rotary on its success and continued growth in the future and the Rotary District 7930 Foundation Chair, Liz Cullen who related the significant work funded by the Rotary Foundation especially the commitment to eradicate Polio. She commended Lynnfield Rotary members for 100% participation to the Rotary Foundation.
President Christine gaveled the meeting to adjourn; an evening well done, in keeping with the Rotary motto “Service Above Self”.
