Danvers Rotary Club member Philip Wilson brought the impact of polio to life with a description of his life after being paralyzed, unable to use his arms and left hand, at the age of eight. His presentation, both dramatic and humorous, helped to reconnect us to the American epidemics of the 1940s and 50s. Polio occurred so long ago that now it’s only a word and no longer carries the dread and fear it once did.
Beyond describing his own life, Philip speaks to the world eradication of polio, its infectious nature, Rotary funding, international funding, American funding, the safety and effectiveness of the polio vaccines, and more. Through Polio Plus, Rotary has led the world making a remarkable commitment to world health.
Philip is available to speak on PolioPlus at your club meeting. He can be reached at: wilsonphilipe@Gmail.com or 201-956-8509. Pictured here: Philip Wison, Pooja Singla (District Governor Elect), Rich Vincent (Danvers Rotary President).
