During this unprecedented time in history, we are reminded of the tremendous importance of essential workers in our community. This realization has sparked discussions among Rotary Clubs on ways in which they can assist and support their communities during this time of crisis. Many of these discussions have been interesting and productive.

The Essential Worker Thank You Sign program of the Stoneham Rotary Club was formed as a result of these conversations. The program offers a way to combine visual support for the workers who are not able to stay home during this critical time with financially supporting Covid-19 relief efforts. Essential workers include doctors, nurses, technicians and other hospital staff, EMTs, police officers, firefighters, transit personnel, grocery store employees, delivery drivers and more.

The signs are available to order via the link on the club’s website. Proceeds from the sale of signs to residents and businesses will benefit the Stoneham Rotary’s Covid-19 relief projects and other charities of the club.

If your club decides to adopt a similar program, there are several ways that your members can be involved with to ensure the success of your efforts:
  • Purchase a sign for their homes and/or businesses
  • Purchase additional signs for friends, family, neighbors, and colleagues.
  • Promote the program via personal and professional social media accounts, email lists, networking groups, and other community groups.

Offering encouragement to essential employees and raising funds for those most affected by the economic shutdown are efforts that any Rotary member can support and champion. We look forward to continuing the dialogue among clubs and members as we maintain our current safety protocols.
