On January 7th, 38 members (52%) of the Lynn Rotary club took the time to volunteer to participate in our 18th annual "Dictionary Distribution project "sponsored by Reading Cooperative Bank and McGrath Enterprises.

I do not know of any other Rotary Club where the Mayor, the Police Chief, the Fire Chief, the School Superintendent, State Representative, School Committee Members, and several elected Counselors work beside Rotarians on such a special project to demonstrate to young students that literacy is important and the cornerstone to life's success. This project fits in with public officials' goals of making our community strong by instilling knowledge into the hands of a new generation.

For me, to the see the joy in the faces of the third graders when they received this gift was a beautiful way to start my day. I hope our warm Rotary presence did the same for these students.

What makes our club so special is the dedication of our members and the intentional focus on "Service Above Self," our Rotary mission.

Our members' lives span young full-time working moms and dads to long time members experiencing the joy of retired leisure. The diversity of this mix has continued to serve the community and support the various work we do in Lynn.

With the New Year begun, my hope is to continue the collaborative spirit of our club to improve the lives in Lynn.

We are always looking for new members to join our efforts. Please share your experiences with your family and friends and invite them to join or participate with you. We all have gifts to share.

Thank you!
