The Wakefield Rotary Club recently returned to his “home” at Brightview Senior Living on Crescent Street. On Tuesday, August 17th, the club moved offline and returned to in-person meetings after over a year of online meetings. Although there were less handshakes than usual at a meeting, club members were thrilled to see each other in person. Past President Mario Portillo shared, “After a year and a half of Zoom meetings, which I was grateful we did to stay active, it was wonderful to meet face to face again, share a meal and discuss how we can be of more impactful service during a time of great need.”

In preparation for the transition back, Wakefield Rotary Club President Bruce Donovan met with Brightview staff to establish safety protocols. Each fully vaccinated member is allowed to meet in the meeting room after providing their vaccination card, an arrival check-in, and a temperature check. Masks will remain in place in common areas of the facility.

Rotarian and Brightview Community Sales Director Jill McWilliam led the coordination efforts to bring Rotary back to Brightview within safety protocols. She commented, “We couldn’t be more appreciative and grateful that we are able to be together safely and responsibly in our community.” She continued, “Rotary is about commitment and giving back. The last year plus has given even more value and significance to our mission. Brightview Wakefield is truly proud to be a part of Rotary, and we hope that we can continue to meet in person.” Donovan added, “We believe we have safety measures in place when checking in, moving about the hallways, and in our meeting room to ensure we are keeping the residents, guests and club members safe and healthy.” He continued, “Safety was our top priority. Without these safety measures, we would have remained online for as long as it took.”

The club will continue with in-person Tuesday lunch meetings full-time as long as Brightview protocols permit with the safety rules in place. Donovan cautioned, “Obviously, with COVID, we’re in a fluid situation and our members have been very flexible and understanding. If safety doesn’t allow it, we will prioritize the health of the community and return to meeting online.”
