District Managed Grant Applications Open July 1
District Managed Grant are short-term project, either local or international, that supports one of Rotary’s 7 areas of focus. Funding requests are on a first come first serve basis and open July 1. Grants close October 31, 2023. Your club must be grant qualified to receive grant monies.

Matching grants are available of up to $3000 with a minimum match of $500 for local projects and $5000 for international projects with a minimum match of $2500. Remember that district managed grants are reimbursement grants! The club must first up front the money and complete the project and final report before reimbursement occurs. Reimbursement typically occurs in May/June of the following year as RI must approve all grants. After the grant application process is closed, the district sends a spending plan to RI for approval. Once the spending plan is approved, monies are transferred to the district’s foundation account.

The Ipswich-Rowley club on Saturday, July 22 had a table at Northern Lights Farm Stand, 243 High St, Ipswich 10 am - 12 pm to advocate and educate on the need for conservation of water in our lawns and gardens.

This is part of ongoing work funded by the global grant Save the Ipswich River: The Lifeblood of Our Communities to create an advocacy toolkit to save our river. Wakefield Announces One and One School Supply Drive
The Wakefield Rotary Club is collecting new school supplies for students in Wakefield and the Dominican Republic. The public is invited to donate two new school supply items. One item will stay local and given to the Wakefield Boys and Girls Club. The second item will be donated to a school/orphanage in the Dominican Republic.

Wakefield Rotary Club Secretary Suzanne Bowering explained, “We know kids here in Wakefield need school supplies and the Boys and Girls Club is positioned to know which kids need the most. We’re thrilled to partner with them to distribute the supplies locally.” She added, “And as part of Rotary’s mission abroad, we know that kids in the Dominican Republic also need supplies, so we’re asking people to donate to those kids too. This way, one item is kept local, and one item is going abroad.”

Cambridge Organizes Rocket Program Visit
3 - 2 - 1 Blast Off!  A local STEM organization, Science Club for Girls Rocket Program received support from the Cambridge Rotary Club to visit with women astrophysicists and engineers at the Center for Astrophysics at Observatory Hill.

Four professional women engaged the middle school and high school students to think about future travel in space to remote planets and hear about the women’s college and career tracks. The final part of the visit was to the rooftop telescope and view the astronomical photographic plate stacks of 50- to 100-year-old images and learn about the Women Astronomical Computers who worked at the Harvard College Observatory.  It was a fun and engaging morning!
