October is “Vocational Service Month” in Rotary. I would like to bring to your attention the second “Object of Rotary”:
“High ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations;
and the dignifying of each Rotarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve society”
We, Rotarians are leaders in our communities, in society and in business. We are able to “encourage and foster” ethical standards in business, we use our leadership skills to serve, we hold integrity to be a valued intrinsic fabric of our way of life.
I would encourage all Rotarians to share your vocation in your clubs. Learn from your friends vocations. Mentor a young Rotarian in his or her business. And support professional development for yourself and others.
At this week’s Zone Institute, we learned a great deal from the “Rotary Means Business” breakout session. It was extremely encouraging to hear what other clubs and districts are doing to promote real business networking opportunities amongst their members. It gives another value to membership into Rotary. Who better than Rotarians to trust and conduct business with? By providing a structured environment in which Rotarians can learn and network with other Rotarians and even better, potential members!
Yes, we are the oldest and largest service organizations. That is what we do. We also must remember Paul Harris formed Rotary “where professionals with diverse backgrounds could exchange ideas and form meaningful, lifelong friendships”.

POLIO UPDATE
Here’s where we are. We are down to two endemic countries (Afghanistan and Pakistan). We have gone Polio free in Nigeria. WE ARE CLOSING IN! Up to date information is attached.
DREAMING THE DREAM
All efforts by all the Partners in this fight are surging forward to eliminate all cases of Polio by the next Rotary Convention. It will require a huge effort and much more funding. It will require the ongoing efforts of all the partners and significant funding outlays to beat out the last cases and to make sure that polio cases do not reoccur in those countries that have been and will be certified polio free. If this happens it will take until 2018 for the world to be certified POLIO FREE.
WE NEED TO STAY DILIGENT
Please continue your fund raising efforts by going out into your communities and telling the story and asking their support. Work at getting as many pledges as you can and do all you can to help the District raise even more money this year for our POLAR PLUNGE effort. The more successful we are at this event, the less effort we need to ask Rotarians for funds that they can then give to the Rotary Foundation for doing even more good in the world.
WORLD POLIO DAY - OCTOBER 24, 2015
Rotary International and the Rotary Foundation have declared October 24 World Polio Day. We ask all clubs in the District to please consider doing something that day or to honor that day in their local communities. It can be a fundraising activity or just a fun activity to raise awareness of Rotary’s commitment to eradicating Polio in the word. Rotary International is planning a live streaming event on October 23 and has some additional tools to use for planning. Information on these is available on the District website. The District will be using this day to kick off sign- ups for pledges for the Polar Plunge.
District 7930 is proud to announce that we are a beta district for the new website theme that provides a look and feel in line with the new Rotary branding guidelines. It is cleaner, more visually pleasing and is definitely more engaging. We have also been working on the overall layout and have been busy updating content so take a look around.
If your club has interesting, engaging and action-oriented images that could be used in the banner photo, we would like to hear from you. If you are interested in submitting one for approval, please make sure that it measures 1600x350 pixels. If you are not sure how to get your image to this specification, please feel free to send an image and provide a description of what portion (vertically) you think is most compelling. Please send your images to David Gardner via email.
Depending on how many submissions we get we will either rotate them weekly or create a scrolling banner with 4 images and we will continue to showcase our clubs and their service.
This same theme will be made available in the near future, so your club will be able to update your website and create a more engaging image. The Communications and Technology Committee will hold a training session or sessions to assist you in the implementation and learn a few new tricks. Details to follow!
Boston Rotaract will host its 2015 Autumn Gala in support of ArtLifting, a social enterprise that dedicates itself to the empowerment of homeless and disabled individuals through the sale of their artwork. They act as a bridge, connecting artists with millions of potential customers and providing the opportunity to earn an income in this way.
The Autumn Gala is a semi-formal event, co-sponsored by Impact Hub Boston and featured as an event concurrent with Boston's City Awake Festival. It will take place on November 6th, from 7:00-11:00 pm. The event features an art display courtesy of ArtLifting, live musical performances, heavy hors d'oeuvres and a bar serving local beer and wine. Remarks will be delivered by representatives of Art Lifting.
This event is a fantastic opportunity to engage with local entrepreneurs, supporters of the arts, and members of the local community. Tickets are available for $55 each, and donations are welcome for those who are unable to attend. The members of Boston Rotaract look forward to sharing a memorable evening with fellow Rotarians and others in support of the mission to empower and uplift individuals worldwide.
Return to the 1960’s for an evening of period fun for a good cause. All proceeds from this celebration will benefit the community services of Ipswich Rotary and the Rotary Satellite Club of Ipswich. Our clubs serve Ipswich and Rowley.

On September 4, Rotary Club of Marblehead Harbor Rotarians Heidi Whear, Joan McCormack and Margo W. R. Steiner flew to Kathmandu, Nepal, to assist in earthquake recovery work under the auspices of Habitat for Humanity International. Rotarian Steiner, a longtime Habitat team leader, led a group of 14 from across the United States to the 400-person village of Pipaltar, where 89 of the village's 95 homes were destroyed and the rest needed to be torn down. Over the course of six days, the Rotarians and their teammates passed 400,000 pounds of rocks and boulders up a steep hill, where they were put in wire mesh gabions (also made by the team) to create a road that will let heavier equipment in to the village.

During their time in Nepal, the three attended meetings of the Rotary Club of Dhulikhel and the Rotary Club of Dillibazar in Kathmandu, where they learned of the many service projects being undertaken by their Rotarian counterparts and exchanged club flags.

Your District Public Image Committee is proud to announce its first Public Image Mini Grant! The purpose of the grant is to improve the visibility of your club and its public image. This is a matching grant of up to $250 and applications are due by November 1, 2015. Details of the grant and the easy 1-page application are attached.
