RI Convention Houston 2022

Discover New Horizons

The 2022 Rotary International Convention is now just two months away so if you would like to attend, the time to register is now! We are pleased to announce that the Rotary International Board of Directors has confirmed that the 2022 Rotary International Convention will be an in-person event in Houston, TX, June 4th-8th. For more information see also this flyer from Zones 28&32.

Please join DG Terry, DGE Alexander, DGN Lori, and DGND Tom in Houston and register as soon as possible!

There will also be a special District 7930 TexMex dinner on Monday, June 6th, at 7:00 PM local time, at The Original Ninfa’s on Navigation Street in Houston so please make sure to register for that dinner as well.
District Assembly 2022

The District Assembly is our next step in the journey of training incoming club leaders for the upcoming Rotary year 2022-23, including the Grant Qualification Seminar, which is open to all club members. This year we will be in-person again and will be meeting at the Four Points Sheraton in Wakefield on Wednesday, April 27.

For the Grant Qualification Seminar we recommend that each club send at least two members to attend - but there is no limit. If your club grant committee includes multiple members, it would be ideal if they could all attend and get qualified. The District Assembly is open to all Rotarians in our district!

The evening will begin at 6:00 PM with five parallel tracks for: Presidents-Elect, Secretaries, Treasurers, Foundation Chairs, as well as a fireside chat with DG Terry Curran (for all Rotarians who don't fall into any of the previously mentioned four roles).

At 7:00 PM we will be serving a soup & sandwich buffet and continue the evening with a working dinner meeting for all groups together, which includes the District Qualification Seminar and the presentation of the District Budget.

Downtown Boston Hosts Ukrainian Cultural Center of NE
The Downtown Boston Rotary is proud to host the Ukrainian Cultural Center of New England at their next speaker meeting on April 5th.

The UCCN has organized various fundraisers for the people of Ukraine during the current war in their country.  They have also provided information on the many other organizations helping Ukraine during this conflict and directed many in the Boston-area towards appropriate ways to donate funds and supplies to the people of Ukraine.

The DBRC is thrilled to welcome Ukrainian Cultural Center of New England to discuss the war in Ukraine and what we can do to help, and we hope Rotarians from around the district will join us.  The meeting will be taking place downstairs at Elephant & Castle on Tuesday, April 5th, doors open at 6 PM and the meeting will begin at 6:30 PM.
Woburn Interact Donates to Scholarship Committee
After a recent fundraiser, the Interact Club at Woburn Memorial High School donated proceeds to the Woburn Dollars for Scholars program.  Here, Interact Club President Emily Sullivan presents a check to WDFS Committee President Rosemary Donovan.
Reading's Rotary Readers
Reading Rotary just completed its Rotary Readers project. Rotary Readers is an annual literacy project where reading books and a backpack are given to each Reading Public Schools student in kindergarten. This year approximately 300 literacy bags will be delivered by Rotarians to the five Reading elementary schools. In addition, Rotarians read to each Kindergarten class as part of Read Across America. It was exciting and fun to be able to read in person this year after doing virtual reading in 2021.

This literacy project has been adapted from Rotary’s previous dictionary and thesaurus giveaways. Teachers expressed their preference to have the younger students receive reading books. Basic Education and Literacy is one of Rotary International's Areas of Focus. This particular project was adapted from a Girl Scout Gold Award literacy project by Mary Kate Kelley, who is a Past President of RMHS Interact and one of its Founding Members.
