District Installation 2022
Please join us as we celebrate the Installation of District Officers & Club Presidents in Rotary District 7930 on June 30th, 2022, at 6:00 PM at the Danversport, 161 Elliott St, Danvers. Since we are a little bit later than usual with the date of our installation, the theme for this year’s event is “It’s Almost the Fourth of July”.

Accordingly, we will have a summer cookout style dinner buffet with Danversport's own New England Clam Chowder, Warm Dinner Rolls, Strawberry Salad and Caesar Salad, Quinoa and Vegetable Salad, Watermelon Salad, Grilled Steak Tips, Chipotle BBQ Chicken, Hardwood Smoked Pulled Pork, Herbed Potato Salad, Corn on the Cob, and we will finish the evening with Blueberry Tarts and coffee/tea.

Doors will open at 5:30 and we will have cheese platters, vegetable crudites, and a cash bar for fellowship from 6:00 – 6:45 PM. A brief opening ceremony will be held from 6:45 – 7:00 PM followed by dinner starting at 7:00 PM. At 7:45 PM we will begin the installation festivities. The dinner cost per person is $65.

Online registration is now open! Registration and online payment are required: please click here for more details and to register members and guests.

We recommend that Rotary Clubs skip their regular meetings that week and instead encourage their members to attend the Installation!

Flags for Heroes
Flags for Heroes is a fund-raising activity sponsored by the Rotary Club of Arlington.  People have sponsored a flag in memory of the men and women who are serving or have served as members of the Military, Police Officers, Firefighters, First Responders, Parents, Teachers, Coaches, Mentors, Community Leaders, and fly them for all the people who have made a difference in their lives.

You may sponsor as many heroes as you want, and a flag with the name of each hero will be flown at Park Circle on Park Avenue from May 25th through June 15th.

The public dedication will be on June 5, 2022, at 1 pm at the Park Circle Water Tower.   The installation will be dedicated to the teachers and educators that serve the Arlington community.

We will follow whatever Covid-19 restrictions that are in effect at that time.

The cost of each sponsorship is $40.00.  Click here to purchase today.

Holes for Poles and Flags for Heroes
Ipswich-Rowley Rotary members got a workout on Friday when they hit the South Green in Ipswich to place holders for 200 American flags.

The flags, which are on 10-foot poles, will be installed shortly as part of the Flags for Heroes project.  Rotary placed 100 on the green last year but enlarged the Ipswich display this year — and expanded to Rowley, where 100 flags will be placed on the town common.

People can sponsor a flag for $50 to honor a personal hero.  “The hero may be a veteran, teacher, medical professional, mentor, or any person you would like to honor for their contribution to your life, the community, or the world,” organizers said.

Sponsorships are still available online, or by visiting the Institution for Savings and Bank Gloucester branch offices in Ipswich.

Display dates are May 27 to June 18 in Ipswich, and June 18 to July 9 in Rowley.

Proceeds from the volunteer-run organization will be used to fund scholarships and service projects in the two towns.

Wakefield Sponsors Father's Day Fishing Derby
The Wakefield Rotary Club will be again sponsoring the Father’s Day Fishing Tournament at Lake Quannapowitt.  The fun-filled morning is free and open to all ages on Sunday, June 19th. Wakefield Rotary Vice-President Gene Mullen explained, “The pandemic put a hold on the past two years, but we’re really excited to bring this event back to the community.”

Registration will be held on Veteran’s Field on North Avenue from 8:30am-10:00am.  Registration is required to compete, and bait will be provided while supplies last.  The Massachusetts Department of Fish and Game will also provide a limited amount loaner fishing rods upon request.  The derby competition will be open from 8:30am-11:00am. Trophies will be provided for largest fish by category at the 11am ceremony.

The Father’s Day Fishing Derby is part of the Club’s on-going efforts to focus on local support during its 100th Year Anniversary celebration; the club will celebrate its centennial on September 28, 2022. Mullen added, “This year is special to us as we approach our club’s 100th year of service to Wakefield and the global community.  This local event fits right in.”

In addition to the fishing derby, the club will have resources on environmental sustainability, an area of focus for Rotary International.  Wakefield Rotary respects the nature and beauty of our natural resources and we encourage all participants to fish responsibly. Mullen noted, “We strongly support catch and release and ask that all participants use good judgement in deciding if your fish is of competitive size or should be released immediately.”

Lynn Scholarship Recipients
The Rotary Club of Lynn Scholarship Committee recently reviewed some 30 applications from area high schools where Lynn seniors attend before finally coming to consensus on five truly outstanding students.

Lynn English seniors Vatana Chen and Nantenen Kiata along with Abigail Constine from St. Mary’s, Lynn Classical’s Prisila Romero and KIPP Academy’s Stacey Munoz Arreaga emerged as the recipients of Rotary’s Richard Maloney & Robert Hastings Memorial Scholarships.  Pictured here from left to right: Nantenen Kiata, Stacey Munoz Arreaga, Vatana Chen, Prisila Romero and Abigail Constine.

“I know I can speak for the committee members when I say how the selection process gets more challenging every year,” admitted Ray Bastarache, a longtime Lynn educator and committee chair.   “Vatana, Nantenen, Abigail, Prisila and Stacey had an average GPA (Grade-point average) of 4.25, with a total of 35 Advance Placement or honors level course over their last three years of high school.  They captained sports teams, led school clubs and organizations, and all five were very involved in community service.  The Lynn community has a lot to be proud of.”

Andover Honors Citizens who Care
Citizens Who Care is the Rotary Club of Andover's longest running program that honors outstanding community volunteers.  Since 1996 our club has honored 10 people each year who have contributed to the local community through their extraordinary volunteer contributions.  In 2009, the Club added the Educator of the Year and Student of the Year awards to Citizens Who Care.  Those chosen to exemplify what it means to be an "unsung hero."  They come in all ages and professions.

This year we saluted members from various organizations and groups for their outstanding work to our community.  Whether it be working with our youth, creating environments for our elders to gather, or influencing the positive growth of Andover, our honorees have all made our world better.
