As you know, our largest beach party is set to kick off right in the middle of winter! On January 31st over 200 District 7930 Rotarians are participating in the Polar Plunge for Polio. It's also our biggest fundraiser for Rotary's biggest international eradication effort! We're asking each club to register a plunge participant OR a virtual plunger (fundraiser only)! You set your financial goals and we will help supply you with strategies and graphics to help your club reach them!
Has your club considered OPM: Other People's Money? We're not asking you to ask your fellow Rotarians for another donation to the Foundation. We know you'll keep supporting Annual Giving. We're asking that as a Rotarian, you ask a friend, colleague, relative, or other non-Rotarian for the donation! Each time you ask, it supports spreading the word that countries are still battling this crippling disease. This strategy of seeking OPM is a proven method of increasing donations. You can even recognize businesses and organizations that support this with a Certificate of Appreciation and make them feel great about their donation!

GOVERNOR'S MESSAGE FOR NOVEMBER 2104
The month of November is Foundation month. Our past Foundation giving is funding one global scholar from our district this year. She will be attending Universidad Torcuato di Tella in Argentina and her focus will be centered in building a micro credit system to fund sustainable women owned businesses. We are also supporting a global grant that will build 275 toilets for a girls school in India. Our Foundation Committee has also awarded 14 District grants to clubs in our District. Additionally two of our clubs in 7930 have partnered with clubs in District 7780 (Southern Maine and Seacoast New Hampshire) to help fund two global grants. We are also committing Foundation funds to help end polio. These are the examples of what part of our funds are used for and why we should support our Foundation. The projects and scholars from our District are a part of the worldwide network of international partnerships to do good in the world in our six areas of focus:
• Promoting Peace
• Fighting Disease
• Providing Clean Water
• Saving Mothers and Children
• Supporting Education
• Growing Local Economies
On Saturday, Nov. 22, members of the Rotary Club of Marblehead Harbor gathered at the home of service committee chairman Rosaleen Doherty to count, sort and package for distribution the results of the club's 2014 winter coat drive.
In just under a month, 253 men's, women's and children's warm winter coats were collected for the area's homeless and transitional individuals and for families in need. “We were not only astonished by the sheer number of coats collected, but by the quality of the donations,” club President Margo W.R. Steiner said. “These included a number of brand new, high-quality winter coats with the tags still on them, which were donated by Timberland."
Educating Rotarians about the work of The Rotary Foundation is one of the most effective tools for gaining and broadening support of our Annual Fund and the Every Rotarian, Every Year effort. The Weekly Thoughts on The Rotary Foundation is designed to inform our members of the many ways in which we impact the world — there’s always something new and exciting going on in Rotary.
