Rotarian of the Year Nominations Due

Deadline extended to Monday, May 29

Rotarians of the Year

I would like to express my gratitude to each and every Rotarian during the 2017-2018 Rotary year as you have all fulfilled this year's theme - Rotary: Making a Difference!
One way to acknowledge the great work of Rotarians is to have our members nominate who was instrumental in a great year!

Club Rotarian of the Year
District 7930 will be honoring one individual from each club as the Rotarian of the Year. It might be someone who made a huge contribution to the success of one event this year or an individual who is in the background throughout the year ensuring that everything exceeds expectations, but it should be someone who exemplifies the Rotary Spirit in everything they do. If you would like to nominate someone to be recognized, please click on the link below and provide their name and a short statement about why you chose them for recognition. Please complete before May 25th so that we can prepare the presentation for the District Installation.

District 7930 Rotarian of the Year

The District is focused on serving each Rotary Club in an effort to help you make as big an impact as possible. Once again, please complete by clicking the link below before May 25th so that we can prepare the presentation for the District Installation.

Objectives of the Seminar

  • Learn about the driving forces of addiction, and how to raise awareness and initiate change that will effectively work to reduce rates of addiction.
  • Collaborate with other community members and professionals on how to prevent addiction.
  • Find out how to replicate this seminar in your own community.
Rotary understands that addiction, like polio, is a preventable global disease. Rotarians in clubs across the country are mobilizing to bring solutions to the epidemic. This program is the launch of a new initiative to unite Rotary Clubs, the community, the public health sector and drug prevention specialists to raise awareness about what perpetuates addiction and about ways to be part of the solution.

The short, interactive seminar has been designed for easy replication and scalability for Rotary Clubs, individuals, and community organizations across the country to deliver in their communities and regions.

This program is designed for anyone in the community who is interested in taking action to reduce drug use and addiction.
This program is hosted by the Rotary Club of Newton.

Empty Bowls Painting Event
On 14 February 2018, after school, students of the Interact Club were able to participate in painting bowls for the annual Chelsea Hunger Network. The Annual Chelsea Empty Bowls fundraiser helps feed hundreds of people in Chelsea each year. This year Interact members were able to show their artistic skills and put it for a good use to help fundraise. Some students used images from online for inspiration to create the bowls, and some used their own creativity to make unique designs. ̈I am so happy to see that so many students care about the well-being of the community. As president of this club it is nice to see that there are many students not only volunteering but having fun as well. I hope this can continue to be an event every year now so that the high school students of this city can be more involved with their community. ̈ President Fazila Nasimi.
Rockport Speakeasy Fundraiser
The Rockport Rotary Club held a wine, beer and whiskey tasting fundraising event” on April 28, 2018. The event was held at the Shalin Liu Performance Center in Rockport. The Roaring 20s/Prohibition Era was the theme for the evening with period music, décor and dress attire. I was a fun and enjoyable evening for everyone that attended. A collection of fine wine, beer and spirits was provided by Seabreeze Liquors of Gloucester. Chas. E. Kreis from Rockport catered the event with an assortment of delicious cold and hot hors d’oeuvres served by fellow Rotarians dressed in formal Roaring 20s costumes.

Reading Congratulates Eagle Scouts
On May 12, Reading Boy Scout Troop 702 held a Court of Honor to confer the rank of Eagle Scout on Dustin Rosh and Harrison Fiscus. As part of the ceremony, Reading Rotary presented both Eagles with a Certificate of Congratulations.

District Governor David Gardner has launched an initiative to partner more closely with Scouting. Reading Rotary has also sought to work with Scouts and has contributed to several Eagle Scout Community Service Projects, including Harrison's. Rotary and Scouting are natural partners as both are committed to service and high ethical conduct.

Reading Rotary will contribute $200 to a qualifying Eagle Scout Project or a Girl Scout Gold Award Project.

Harrison's Eagle Project was a boardwalk in the Town Forest. Dustin's Eagle Project was a beautification of the landscaping at Church of the Good Shepherd and installation of a Peace Pole. Both young men are graduating high school this spring. Dustin will attend Wake Forest. Harrison will attend University of California at Berkeley. Congratulations and thank you for your service to the community, Dustin and Harrison.
An Ovation for Our Summit Sponsors
For those who attended the 2018 Rotary Summit at Mount Washington, you know that it was a monumental event bringing together over 500 Rotarians from around New England with speakers and programming that provided a once in a lifetime experience. None of this would have been possible without the support of so many of our sponsors. I want to personally thank each and every sponsor as you were instrumental in supporting the event's motto: Create Positive Impact, Through Caring Service, Powered by You! The Summit was meant to be a springboard to action and provide ideas and connections to other like-minded people. Your contributions will be Making a Difference for so many!

Please Read More to see the list of the sponsors and please thank all who supported the 2018 Rotary Summit at Mount Washington.
