WHILE THERE'S LIFE, THERE'S HOPE

"However bad life may seem, there is always something you can do, and succeed at. While there's life, there is hope."
-Stephen Hawking

I watched the Stephen Hawking movie Theory of Everything a few weeks ago. At the end of the film, Stephen says to a lecture audience, "While there's life, there is hope." Hope is something I think of all the time.

It was something I thought about when I was working with victims of domestic violence and running art groups in shelters. Women would ask me what to paint. Over and over, I said paint hope.

I was continually impressed by what they created -- abstract colors, landscapes with the sun rising, self-portraits. Every creation was a statement.

Hope is what I dedicate my life to. I give homeless and disabled artists an avenue to sell their work and share their stories: to share their hope.

People think that my goal is to give hope to homeless and disabled individuals. In reality, I simply am a middleman as they share their hope with the world. These artists inspire others by starting a movement of celebrating strengths. These artists show the general public that despite what you are facing, you have something to contribute.

IS YOUR CLUB LOGO RI COMPLIANT?

Rotary International has created an online tool to help clubs create new club logos that are guaranteed to match the new brand guidelines. This is a very quick and easy way to update your logo for use on your website, in your email signatures, in your social media posts and in all printed materials including apparel.

Go to rotary.org and click on MyRotary in the top banner. Then click on Manage in the white ribbon, then select Logos in the blue box under Brand Center. You will need to either create a user login or if you have already done so, login to the portal. Once you have reached this point you will be able to access all of the Rotary logos including The Rotary Foundation, Youth Programs and also the tool to create your clubs logo. Please click on the button Club Logo Template which will bring you to the tool. You have several choices on formatting but the primary one will be presented initially. If the name of your club would be awkward, you can choose one of the other options. You can save it as a pdf or as a jpg or both.

2015-16 DISTRICT MANAGED GRANTS

It is time to plan your District Managed Grants projects for 2015-16! Effective grant projects address an identified need in the community and involve the active participation of club members. Projects must address one of the 6 Areas of Rotary Focus. All projects should actively benefit the target community for a sustained period. The District will match $1/$1 club, up to $3,000 for local projects and up to $5,000 for international projects. Travel grants are also available for individual Rotarians who travel to other countries for humanitarian causes. Please check the District Website for applications and guidelines.

To download a District Managed Grant Application click here! Applications will be accepted from July 1 to August 31, 2015.

To be eligible, your club is required to send the President-elect or proxy and one other member to a District Grants Qualification Session. This is a great opportunity to ask questions of the District Foundation Committee reps and to speak with fellow Rotarians about their experiences with successful projects. If you weren’t able to fulfill this obligation on May 2, please check the District Website for another opportunity on May 21. This will be the final opportunity this year.

If you need assistance in planning your grant, please contact Martha Holden at holden@noblenet.org.
