D7930 Conference Service Project - Collecting Children’s Books
The Burlington Breakfast and Lunch Rotary Clubs will be collecting new children’s books to be donated to a local Elementary School in the District ​Governor’s home City of Salem, MA. New Children’s books should be accumulated by individual clubs, then brought to the District Conference at the Westin Portland Harborview Hotel Portland on May 2, 2014 for distribution. If you need somebody to pick up books from your club, please contact your Assistant Governor.
There will be a special recognition for the club which donates the most new children’s books. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Jim Babbin at jimb13@verizon or your Assistant Governor.
Can the District reach 2,000 Rotarians by June 30th?
District Governor John Hall and Peter Majane would like to thank the Club Presidents, Membership Chairs and all members in the District for attracting and inducting new Rotarians. This is a winning combination and the evidence is in! Membership is 1,984, well over the goal +48 during this Rotary year. In fact, we are now plus 71, with many scheduled to induct prior to June 30, 2014.
Let’s continue the great membership growth and surpass 2,000 before June 30th.
ElderAct Initiative
District 7930 has approved the establishment of the new ElderAct Club, a service Club for senior citizens, run by senior citizens and sponsored by a local Rotary Club. ElderActors are committed, willing and capable of making major contributions to improve the quality of life through effective leadership, by addressing specific physical and social needs and promoting goodwill, understanding and peace in their communities and the world.

Mediterranean Night at Ithaki, April 29, featuring the spectacular Melina
On April 29, the Ipswich Rotary Club will present the 4th annual Mediterranean Night at Ithaki. The proceeds from this event will benefit Rotary’s community projects and youth programs in Ipswich and Rowley.
This year’s featured performer will be Melina of “Daughters of Rhea”, a second-generation belly dance artist who grew up dancing professionally in Greece with her mother Rhea and her sister Piper. Melina is a world-class entertainer who has appeared at prestigious venues all over the world. The Four Season Hotel described Melina's dancing as "elegant and entertaining. Outrageously so.” Her stunning performance will include her world-famous, one of a kind, sword-on-dagger balancing act. This truly is an evening you do not want to miss.
Danvers Rotary Announces their Annual Kentucky Derby Day
Danvers Rotary is holding a Kentucky Derby Day party and fundraiser on the day of the annual horse race. It will be held at the former offices of the United States Olympic level training grounds in Hamilton MA. on Saturday May 3, from 4-8 pm.
Henry's dining will cater and there will be games, a ladies hat contest, raffles and live viewing of the Derby race. A free welcome Mint Julep is included with every ticket. The beautiful equestrian estate setting will be the perfect backdrop for a grand afternoon of tradition and elegance. Tickets in advance are $50 and are available online at www.danversrotary.org
Volunteering is a way of life in Andover and annually recognizing extraordinary volunteers who contribute beyond their normal job description is what the Rotary Club of Andover has been doing for 17 years with Citizens Who Care and the last 6 years with Educator of the Year. “Our Club believes in ‘service above self’ as a way of life, yet it can be under the radar for recognition, so this event is one way for the community at large to say thank you to deserving citizens,” commented Bob Lavoie. President, Rotary Club of Andover.
The May 8th recognition event starts at 6pm at the Wyndham Andover Hotel. Recipients were selected from a larger pool of nominees by a Rotarian committee and the Educator of the Year was selected from a pool of nominees by a committee of 3 Andover educators. The spirit of volunteerism is embodied in gallery portraits of each recipient for display throughout the year in Andover Town Hall, several banks, commercial buildings and eventually archived at the Andover Historical Society.
Tickets are $50 per person including a gourmet dinner and can be purchased at www.rotaryandover.org.
The Gloucester Rotary Club will host “A Night at the Races” on Friday, May 16, at 6:30 pm at Cruiseport Gloucester at 6 Rowe Square in Gloucester. The evening will feature videotaped horse races, raffles, a cash bar, food and lots of fun!
Admission is $20 per person. Tickets are available at BankGloucester, Rockport National Bank, and from Gloucester Rotarians. Proceeds from the event will be used to fund repairs to the Antonio Gentile Bandstand at Stage Fort Park.
