Malden Donates to Warming Center
On February 17th The Rotary Club of Malden, donated $600.00 to the Malden Warming Center. The Malden Warming Center is located in the Church of The Nazarene in Malden headed by Pastor Gerry Whetstone. The Warming Center provides the homeless community in and around Malden a place to get in out of the cold overnight, dinner, and breakfast (provided by local partners).

The donation came from the sale of “Malden Thanks You Essential Workers” signs to the community of Malden. The work that the Malden Warming Center does is both vital and essential to the homeless and the community.

NEPETS House of Friendship
Northeast PETS (President-Elect Training Seminar) is a collaboration of eight Rotary districts in the Northeastern United States and Canada, and takes place every year in March. Normally we would be meeting in person for 3 days at the Sheraton in Framingham, MA. This year, the event is, of course, happening virtually.
As such, the NEPETS House of Friendship that would normally include a few tables with vendors and various projects and programs from our districts in the hallways of the hotel, has also gone virtual! And it is now bigger and better than ever before!
The House of Friendship is open to all Rotarians - not just Presidents-Elect - and you can learn a lot about the amazing projects being done in our eight districts, take a look at the various programs, action groups, and fellowships, visit our vendors, and also learn some best practices.
International Women's Day  Conference
International Women’s Day is held every year on March 8th, a day to celebrate the social, political, economic, and cultural achievements of women around the world. The theme for International Women’s Day 2021 is Women in Leadership: Achieving an Equal Future in a COVID-19 world. The coronavirus pandemic has impacted women and girls in significant ways, amplifying the inequalities they face every day. It is fundamental that women’s voices and experiences are central to national and global recovery plans. A key contributor to a more equal COVID-19 world is increasing women’s access to leadership roles. There is much to be done, in addition, we recognize the women around the world who are challenging gender bias and inequality and are changing the world as we know it. Even year on this day, we come together to celebrate achievements and to promote awareness about the importance of an inclusive world by making strides in women’s rights.

Brunswick Rotary Club presents
Lonnie Hackett, Healthy Learners (formerly Healthy Kids/Brighter Future)
March 15, 2021 12:00PM

Brunswick Rotary Club met Lonnie Hackett on March 31, 2014 when Lonnie was a Senior at Bowdoin College. He brought us an opportunity to help the poorest children in Lusaka through an innovative program which trained classroom teachers as front-line health care workers.

Twelve clubs in District 7780 supported this program, now called Healthy Learners, and it has grown from serving 12,000 school-age children and will soon scale to serve a million children. The Rotary Club of Ipswich Massachusetts and Rotary Club of South Berwick-Eliot joined the Brunswick Rotary Club as International partners for a total of five Global Grants.

Andover HS Interact Update
The AHS Interact Club has been very active during the 2020-2021 school year even with Covid-19. Although we had to make several changes to accommodate the virus, we were still able to have an eventful fall/winter. We started the year by building our annual scarecrow for Andover’s scarecrow festival. We met outside Andover high school, underneath one of the open tents, to build our project. We had around 15 to 20 student participants. We made sure to take precautions as we socially distanced ourselves while we built our scarecrow.

Thanks to Rotary member, Michelle Houlihan, Interact connected with Hannah Finn from the One Wish Foundation. Together, we teamed up to organize a toy drive through the school. Due to some administrative complications, we had to run the drive outside of school. Although we had to deal with some obstacles, the toy drive was still a huge success! We were able to collect over 180 toys. As we worked on the drive with One Wish, we were also planning to make a few donations for Andover’s Seniors. Interact came together and wrote holiday letters for the Seniors at Marland Place (Assisted Living)! Aside from the letters, we donated over 200 hats to the Senior Center for the holidays. None of this would have been possible without the generous help of Jane Burns, Director of Elder Services. She was kind enough to give us another amazing opportunity to work with our seniors. Together, we are creating a student senior mentor program to help guide seniors through technology! We are planning to launch this in January of 2021. We are still working out the details. We cannot wait to work together after the new year!
