RYLA: Rotary Youth Leadership Awards
Registration is now open for the 2019 RYLA- Rotary Youth Leadership Awards- weekend on Friday-Sunday, May 10-12, 2019, at Camp Glen Brook in Marlborough, NH.

RYLA is a weekend of discovery designed for high school sophomores and juniors. Designed for teens who have begun to exhibit leadership skills and want to take them to another level, RYLA features indoor and outdoor activities that challenge them to become leaders. The overall program is run by Rotary District 7930, and the entire weekend is carefully planned and facilitated by returning seniors from prior RYLA years. Every aspect of the weekend is intended to ensure a safe and challenging environment in which the participants are free to engage and grow.

Here are the results that some of our graduates have shared...
  • Increased self-confidence
  • Improved career skills and knowledge
  • A unique understanding of leadership and citizenship
  • Increased awareness of some of the other Rotary Youth Programs, like Interact and Youth Exchange.
  • An enhanced college application (RYLA has been around since 1961, and is recognized by many colleges and universities for its outstanding leadership development)

District 7930 clubs are invited to sponsor up to five students.  The sponsoring club will pay the $325 per student tuition, and student applicants will each pay a $25 registration fee.  RYLA applications can be downloaded from the District 7930 website at bit.ly/RYLA2019.  Limited spaces are available for the weekend-- clubs are encouraged to start the application process as soon as possible.  Information packets will be mailed to Club Presidents and/or Club RYLA Coordinators in the coming month.

For more information about RYLA, contact RYLA Chair Christina Harris at christina@partnerwithchoice.com.

Woburn Honors Retiring Police Chief
At a recent Rotary meeting, Woburn Police Chief Robert Ferullo announced his retirement after serving as Chief for seven years and as a police officer for almost forty years. Past Rotary president William Sullivan presented Chief Ferullo with a Paul Harris Fellow and stated "Chief, you have set an example for many by your contributions to your community. Your personal involvement makes Woburn a better place in which to live." The Chief's father, Robert Ferullo Sr. did the pinning. An emotional Chief Ferullo spoke of his love for the job and service to the Woburn community. He plans to stay active in the city after retirement.
Friends Forever Visits Danvers
The Danvers Rotary Club and President Jacki Shambaugh (third from right) recently hosted a group of students from Northern Ireland. The Catholic and Protestant group are in the U.S. for 2 weeks funded by Friends Forever, a non-profit organization.

The Friends Forever program promotes trust, empathy, and friendships among cultures in conflict. Danvers Rotary presented them with a check for $2,000 to support their program.
Wakefield Recognizes Commitment
The Wakefield Rotary Club recently recognized 13 of its members who have reached perfect attendance during the Rotary year 2017-18. Although the minimum attendance requirements by Rotary International have eased, many of the Wakefield Rotarians take pride in attaining or maintaining perfect attendance. This is achieved by attending regular weekly meetings, by visiting other clubs both locally and world-wide or by attending an e-meeting online.

“This just demonstrates the commitment our members have to Rotary and the community,” commented long-time member Judy Gordon.

Gordon along with fellow members Barbara Worley, Jim Fitzgerald, Bruce Donovan, Tom Stapleton, Amy Luckiewicz, Lisa Roderick, Elaine Guaetta, Suzanne Bowering, Fred Singer, Jim Tarpey, Frank Fiorentino, and Jay Curley have accrued a cumulative number of 253 years of perfect attendance. Curley received special notice for his 47 years straight of perfect attendance and the club was recognized for its commitment by Immediate Past District Governor Dave Gardner and Immediate Past Club President Mario Portillo.
Telling Rotary's Story Through Pictures
Using photography to tell a story can become complex and challenging, but it doesn’t have to be. By following a few guidelines, having a focused mindset, and applying a bit of confidence, you can take great pictures with less intimidation.
