The Unsung Hero Event is fast approaching. There are three things you need to do prior to November 8th. The first is get together a table to celebrate your hero at the event. We will be presenting the awards, by a calling the honorees up to the front of the room with the President of the Club that is honoring them. The President will put the Paul Harris Recognition medallion on their honoree, and DG Bob Wood will present them with the certificate and Paul Harris Pin. We need some folks from your club to cheer all of this on.

The second is to get together a basket to be auctioned off during cocktails. The basket should have things that are reflective your community, no need to go beyond $100 value, and let Betsy Manzelli btzmnz1@gmail.com  know that you are bringing one. All proceeds will go to the Annual Fund of the Rotary Foundation.

And finally, come on November 8th, celebrate your hero, celebrate yourselves for being the inspiration always!

Lynn Hosts Info Meeting
The Rotary Club of Lynn hosted its first “What is Rotary” informational meeting Tuesday at the Old Tyme Italian Cuisine on Boston Street. A large crowd of “prospective" Rotarians socialized with Lynn members and learned about the many volunteer initiatives the Lynn Club currently engages in.

“We were very pleased with the turnout,” admitted Club President Brenda Ortiz Peral. “We do a lot of service in the Lynn community, and this event allowed us to share our great story with the community at large. I know I can speak for our members when I say we were extremely pleased with the number of people who came and left with membership forms.”

RI Council on Legislation

Rotary is a bottom-up organization with the club playing the key role. This structure and culture is also reflected in Rotary International’s Council on Legislation. Every three years, each district around the world elects a Council on Legislation (COL) representative to serve a three-year term. Collectively, these representatives are charged with studying, deliberating and voting on proposals to change Rotary’s basic governing rules and documents.

The Council must act on two types of proposals: resolutions, asking the RI Board of Directors to make changes in the rules the Board has authority over, and enactments, which directly change the RI Constitution, Bylaws, and recommended Club Bylaws. Interestingly, the RI Board of Directors has no power themselves to change these three governing documents, only the Council can do that.
