It's Almost Time to Plunge!
We've seen a huge jump in registrations and donations over the past 10 days and we want to say thank you! We have well over 110 participants and look forward to meeting their friends, families, and towel holding supporters. And with just over 2 weeks to go to our most famous event of the year, the Polar Plunge Committee wanted to share some important updates.

VTT Sponsored for Kent, England
Rotary District 7930 has been awarded a $30k grant from the Rotary Foundation to sponsor a Vocational Training Team (VTT) to Kent, England this May. The team will study and exchange best practices in the areas of substance abuse prevention, mental health, school and law enforcement relationships, and school threat assessment. Rotarian Team Leader Amy Luckiewicz commented, “This team is the first time the Rotary Foundation has sponsored a law enforcement training team from this area. The ability to offer local School Resource Officers the opportunity to participate in this level of international learning is exciting, impactful, and rare.”  Four School Resource Officers were competitively selected to join the team to travel to England for two weeks. Sergeant Daniel Perenick (Winchester), Detective Dawne Armitstead (Winthrop), Detective Paul Lucci (North Reading), and Officer Megan Tierney (Newburyport) will join team leader Amy Luckiewicz (Wakefield) in May.

Ipswich Hosts Empty Bowl Dinner
The Rotary Club of Ipswich is hosting the 1st Annual Empty Bowl Dinner for The Open Door Ipswich Food Pantry on Wednesday, February 13th at the Hellenic Center, 117 County Road, Ipswich. Empty Bowl events are held nationally to generate awareness concerning hunger and to raise money for local hunger-relief programs.

Proceeds from this event will benefit The Open Door Ipswich Community Food Pantry, which serves Ipswich, Rowley, Topsfield, Boxford, Hamilton and Wenham. The meal is simple; soup, bread, water and a cookie. Guests select and keep a one of a kind handcrafted bowl of their choice. The bowl goes home as an unspoken reminder that “Somewhere – someone’s bowl is empty.”

Come join the Rotary Club of Ipswich as we work to eliminate food insecurity in our communities.
Lynn Recognizes 8th Grade Students
This past Thursday was our first 8th Grade Recognition Program of the year. Each year the Rotary Club of Lynn recognizes one 8th grade student from every middle school in Lynn each month between January and May. The students are awarded with a certificate, a $25 credit to open a savings account at Riverworks Credit Union and a Barnes & Nobles gift card.

We would like to give a shout out to Riverworks Credit Union for sponsoring this wonderful program.
Wakefield Celebrates Pats by Giving Back
The Wakefield Rotary Club recently hosted a Patriots Appreciation Day by giving back to the community. Members and guests were invited to wear their favorite Patriots gear to a regular Tuesday meeting and bring in an item for the food pantry to donate to the Interfaith Food Pantry. Wakefield Rotary Past President Judy Gordon explained, "The food pantry was low on a bunch of items because of an increase in need from the community. Our club decided to donate needed items and celebrate the Pats going to the Super Bowl all in one day." Gordon explained that donations to the food pantry are common among Rotarians. "Although we were celebrating the Patriots, it's not unusual for Rotarians to step up when supplies are needed. But it was a fun way to celebrate our favorite football team and give back all in one!" To make a financial or item donation to the Wakefield Interfaith Food Pantry, please visit https://www.wifoodpantry.org.
