Save the Date for the Membership and Foundation Forum
Make sure that you plan on attending the Membership and Foundation Forum scheduled for October 21, 2014 from 3:00 - 6:00 pm. It will be held at the Sheraton Colonial Boston North Hotel and Conference Center located at One Audobon Road in Wakefield.

Adopt Some Ducks and Win Some Bucks
On September 6th , the Rotary Club of Haverhill will once again hold their annual fundraising event known as the Rubber Duck Regatta. 10,000 rubber ducks will plunge into the Merrimack River off the Comeau Bridge and spectators will cheer as the ducks race down the river towards the finish line. The proceeds that come from adoption of the rubber ducks will be donated to over 40 Merrimack Valley charities including the Haverhill Boys and Girls Club, Council on Aging, the Haverhill Historical Society, Haverhill Public Library, the Salvation Army, the YMCA, and others.
The person adopting the duck that reaches the finish line first will win $10,000 donated by Rockingham Toyota Honda of Salem, NH. The second place winners will win a weekend getaway in the White Mountains. Those wishing to donate and earn a chance to win the grand prize should log on towww.adoptaducktoday.com.
One rubber duck costs $5. You can multiply your chances of winning by adopting multiple rubber ducks: A "Quack Pack” equals 6 ducks for $25, a “Quacker's Dozen” equals 13 ducks for $50.00, and a “Flock of Ducks” equals 28 ducks for $100. Then be sure to come to the Team Haverhill River Ruckus on September 6th . Cheer on the rubber ducks and find out who wins the $10,000.
The River Ruckus. Events will kick off at 1:00 p.m. with entertainment for the entire family, including boat and kayak rides, a classic car show, children's activities, live music, food, and a fireworks show in the evening. The rubber ducks will be dumped in the Merrimac at about 3:00 p.m.

Support Global Grant Alum in Quest to Empower the Homeless
Liz Powers was the first Rotary Global Grant Scholar in Rotary District 7930. Liz is a social entrepreneur who has received multiple grants and awards for her work. As a Global Grant Scholar from 2011-2012 she founded an art show for homeless artists and earned a MSc from the University of Edinburgh.
Liz's Global Grant Scholarship was revolutionary for her growth as a social entrepreneur. After 8 years of working with homeless individuals, she is continuing on her path to empower individuals who could use a helping hand.
In December of 2013, Liz and her brother Spencer Powers founded ArtLifting, an art gallery that features the work of homeless and disabled artists. The artists receive the majority of the profit of each sale. This young company achieved early success. Liz and the ArtLifting team were selected as residents in the Harvard Innovation Lab. After competing against 1700 teams, ArtLifting was selected as one of the 128 finalists for MassChallenge, the largest startup accelerator in the world.

ArtLifting's impact has been featured in the Boston Globe, Bloomberg Businessweek (online), ABC local news, and the Huffington Post. By being on the ArtLifting platform, artists are emotionally empowered and have an opportunity to earn a stable income. The online art marketplace partners with existing nonprofits that support homeless and disabled individuals across the country.
After successfully launching in Boston with savings on a shoestring budget, and Liz and Spencer Powers decided to fundraise in order to expand. Their goal is to raise $20,000 by September 11, 2014 to help 65 more artists in five more cities across the country (D.C., San Francisco, Detroit, Chicago, and NYC) sell their artwork. The gallery sells artwork in bulk to companies who want to directly support the community while decorating their space. Jimmy Tingle will be performing at the Manninen Center for Arts at Endicott College on Sunday, October 5th, 2014 at 4:00 pm. Regular ticket price is $25.00 per person. You can be assured that this performance will end with enough time to get home to watch the 8:30 pm Patriots game. There are also a limited number of reserved seats and an opportunity to "Mingle with Tingle" following the performance for $45.00. Get Your Stories Published in District Communications
Write up the story in a common text editor such as Microsoft Word and make sure you answer the following questions:
Who - Who attended, who helped, who is invited
What - What is the event, is it a service project, fund raising project or fellowship event
When - What was the date or when will the event occur, include starting and ending time as appropriate
Where - Where was or is the event, provide a map if possible or at least a very specific address so a link can be created to a map complete with directions
How - How do you register, include a digital form in word or pdf or an online registration option
Why - Most importantly, why was or is the event being held, this is why someone would want to participate, be as engaging as possible
Send photos or images as separate files from the actual event if it has occurred, or from a prior year, complete with captions describing who is in the photo (optional) and the story behind the picture.

When writing the story, make the first paragraph as engaging as possible and that will be used on the home page, and the reader will have to click on Read more . . . to get the "Rest of the Story". This will allow for more stories to be displayed on the home page and still allow for additional content to be accessed when you have inspired the reader to do so. You can use this article as a basis for creating a best practice for web stories.
With ClubRunner's capability to pull stories from the home page or from the story library, it is possible to build content for the web and your weekly bulletin simultaneously. Having a dynamic and inspiring speaker at your club's meeting can be a powerful way to retain and attract members. The task of finding quality speakers can be daunting! District 7930 has created a speaker bureau database to help clubs share and find speakers who have presented for clubs and been well received. Please check it out by going to the District website and clicking on "Speaker Database" on the left side of the home page. We have a list of specific names as well as a list of Rotary programs available to your club. This list is growing so be sure to check back in often!
