Nature has a finite capacity to regenerate itself in the face of pressures on its land, water, and air resources.

Our speakers will address sustainability and solutions, both in the Arctic as well as from a worldwide perspective.

 

Speakers include: RI President-Elect Gordon McInally, RI Director Drew Kessler, RI Director-Elect Chris Etienne, Christopher Puttock, and Dr. Michele Devlin.

On Sunday, June 11, Ipswich High School Interact held a special meeting that was attended by their families and some friends from the sponsoring Ipswich-Rowley Rotary club. In addition to celebrating their achievements and installing new leaders, the club created this event to strengthen their connections with parents, school administrators and the Rotary club.  Supported by Rotarians, Interact is driven by the children and enabled by the parents who raise them and shape their values. 

 

Following dinner, Rotary President Martha Mauser shared a bit about Rotary and our annual Youth Exchange program.  The club then presented a year-in-review slide show, beginning with a leadership camping trip in August and running through each club event.  Interact runs a number of events during the year to raise money for charitable organizations. Their Jingle Bell Walk just completed its 10th year in Ipswich and has become an annual town tradition.  This year, the club also raised money to fund Kiva revolving micro loans to small businesses in developing countries. Many of these loans already have been repaid and reissued as new loans. 

 

The Rotary Club of Newburyport recently announced its scholarship recipients.

 

The club provides $9,000 in scholarships annually to graduating high school seniors. A recipient graduating from Newburyport High School and another from Triton Regional High School received the Norman H. Russell Memorial Scholarship.

 

A Newburyport graduate received the George A. Cashman Community Service Scholarship. The value of each scholarship is $3,000. The scholarships are funded with money raised at Rotary events.

 

Kellan McDermott of Newburyport High will attend UMass Amherst and study business and computer science. He was co-captain of the undefeated soccer team that won a state championship. McDermott is a member of the student council and involved with Special Olympics.

 

 

Dear Medford High School Faculty and Staff, 

 

Originally known as the Ambassadors for Change, Interact Club has been empowering students at MHS for over fifteen years. You might not know what Interact Club is or what it does.  As a more ‘lowkey’ club, you may not have seen Interact in the spotlight at school like other clubs.  However, if you have ever seen a sticky note with an inspirational quote, received a small gift in your mailbox or delivered to you by students, voted on your favorite Halloween costume contest, got your car washed, bought a cup of hot chocolate in support of charity, participated in basketball tournaments, you have seen Interact Club working, and hopefully it had left a positive impact on your day.

 

Interact is a student-led organization that actively works to promote the belief that everyone at Medford High School deserves to feel recognized, empowered, and involved.  We strive to strengthen the community within MHS by embracing the diversity seen throughout the school.  Interact is a safe space for students to bring each of their special gifts to the table and use them toward bettering the community.  Each month new projects created by the students themselves are initiated based on the premise of Interact’s motto, “Service Above Self.”  Over these past fifteen years, Interact Club has been truly fortunate to have Ms. Amie Saulnier as its club advisor.  As the one who helped Interact to bloom here in Medford so many years ago, she has always encouraged us and we cannot be more grateful for what she has done here at the MHS.  Her unwavering support and trust in Interact’s students has been instrumental to the success of this club and has shaped it into what it is today.  Her selflessness and dedication to us has allowed us to thrive, letting us realize our ideas and considering even the most absurd ones we come up with.  She has created an environment within her classroom of creativity and inclusivity, pushing us to make a difference in our community.  Unfortunately, this year marks Ms. Saulnier’s last year teaching in Medford to work with multilingual learners in the town her own kids go to school in.
