District Installation Cocktails and Cookout
Installation of District Officers and Club Presidents for 2018-2019

The District Installation dinner will be a little less formal this year. Everyone is invited to celebrate our club and district leadership for the coming year!  Dinner will be served family style, and will be a cookout of beef tips, chicken and all the trimmings. Ceremonies and speeches will be  brief and to the point. Dress code is resort casual – khakis and polos for the guys – comfortable dress for the ladies. No ties! If you have a favorite Rotary shirt you’d like to wear, that might also be appropriate!

Arbor Day Project Photos and Stories Needed
Thanks to all the Rotary Clubs who participated in the Arbor Day Project. You planted a total of 2,700 trees across the district partnering with your communities. This project is sure to Make a Difference in our environment, both from a health and a beauty perspective.

If you have a story to tell about how you managed the project and would like to share in an upcoming eBulletin, please submit a story complete with photographs.

Please share your story on social media with the hashtag #D7930ArborDay.

Over the next few months, do your best to check up on your trees and provide water, and maybe a little love, so that they will thrive through the summer giving them the ability to survive their first winter. As the trees grow 2 feet or so this year, take pictures and continue to post on FaceBook. You will be amazed at how quickly those little twigs become trees that will enhance the environment for decades to come.

Reading Support Week of Service for Vets
On Monday, May 21, a crew of Reading Rotarians traveled to downtown Boston to help serve lunch at the New England Center and Home for Veterans (NECHV) and kick off the District Week of Service for Veterans.

NECHV is a national leader in housing and serving Veterans who are at-risk of homelessness. NECHV supports Veterans with innovative services that enable success, meaningful employment, and dignified independent living.  NECHV serves over 350 Veterans each day in their home communities. It contains 60 affordable apartments, a distinct and separate 24 bed female Veterans transitional dormitory, and over 185 transitional and emergency beds. 250 Veterans reside at NECHV each night. Each year, NECHV serves over 100,000 resident meals. 450 Veterans complete NECHV training programs each year. More than 400 Veterans find permanent homes through NECHV each year. Current NECHV Veteran programs include Education, Clinical Support, Employment and Housing. It is open 24/7 every day of the year, serving Veterans.

Rotary served lunch and dinner all week at NECHV. Reading was the first Club with the help of Boston Rotary to start off this excellent service project.
Rockport  Donates Four AEDs to Town
On Thursday, May 10, members of the Rockport Rotary Club presented four Automated External Defibrillators (AED’s) to the town of Rockport. The event was held at the Rockport Police Department. The Rockport Health Department had approached the Rockport Rotary Club for the need of AED’s for four of their beaches (Front, Back, Old Garden & Long Beach). In the off season the AED’s will be deployed for use in other location within Rockport. The club came through with a grant for $5,540 to pay for these life-saving devices. The Rockport Public School students used a 3-D printer donated by the Rockport Rotary Club in 2015 to create plaques for each AED kit.
