District Conference Carnival

Tired of the same old District Conferences? Have some fun on Saturday, May 31 at the Salesian Boys and Girls Club in East Boston! Rain or Shine!

Carnival food starts at noon, with carnival games and cornhole, plus pickup soccer at the Boston Scores soccer court!

Join us for a fun service project during the afternoon as well.

Stay for dinner and be treated to Melrose Club President Don Putney cooking up a delicious Pasta Dinner with dessert at 5pm served Family Style.

Success in Philippines Rotaplast Mission

From March 8 through March 22 a team from District 7930 left to volunteer on the District sponsored Rotaplast mission to the Philippines. This was District 7930's 20th anniversary mission. Rotaplast missions provides free reconstructive surgery for children with cleft lip and palate anomalies in developing countries.

We met at the San Francisco Airport on Saturday, March 8 at 8:00 pm to register for the flights and claim the supply and equipment boxes that accompanied us. At 11:30 pm we boarded the 15-hour flight that would take us to Taipei, Taiwan and then onto Cebu Island in the Philippines.

We were greeted by the Rotarians of the Cebu Port Centre Club, gathering our boxes and securing our luggage for the trip to our hotel. Once there they celebrated our arrival with a luncheon and introduced themselves to us. The next morning (and every morning thereafter) they arrived with 4 vans to transport our volunteers to the Seventh Day Adventist/Miller Hospital. The first day we unpacked boxes with equipment and supplies. The next day we did the clinic, where we registered 107 patients to possibly be seen during the mission. The next day we were up and running and the surgeries started.

Gloucester to Honor Leo Bergeron

Leo Bergeron will be presented with the Gloucester Rotary’s Paul Harris Distinguished Service Award at a special dinner on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at Cruiseport Gloucester, located at 6 Rowe Square in downtown Gloucester. The Paul Harris Distinguished Service Award is the highest honor bestowed by the Gloucester Rotary and recognizes Leo as a long-time local banker and community activist.

Leo was selected by a Rotary committee of previous Paul Harris recipients. Over its 100+ year history, the Gloucester Rotary has honored more than sixty individuals with the award. The award is named after Paul Harris, a Chicago attorney who founded the Rotary movement in the early 1900s.

After graduating from Nichols College in 1976, Leo began a career in the banking industry working at lending institutions in the New Hampshire seacoast region and on Boston’s North Shore. In 2000, he joined Cape Ann Savings Bank in Gloucester where he successfully established a commercial lending department to serve Cape Ann businesses.

Running for Rotary in Ipswich

On April 19, 417 runners from more than 20 states 'stormed the Castle' in the annual Ipswich Ale Half Marathon for Rotary. The funds raised help Ipswich-Rowley Rotary support several of our important service missions, including school and camp scholarships. Since the inaugural race in 2016, our premier fundraiser has raised over $200,000.

Finishing first among the men was David Perloff with a time of 1:19:46.36. First female finisher was Lauren Reissfelder, not far behind at 1:30:45.55. This scenic road race winds through bucolic Ipswich, starting and ending at the Trustees properties on Castle Hill and Crane Beach.

It takes many hands and a lot of planning to make an event of this magnitude successful. As President Tom Murphy so aptly stated in his letter of appreciation to the community, we are especially grateful "to Andy Ellis, our Race Director extraordinaire for coordinating and guiding us all.” We also acknowledge the vital support provided every year by the town, including the Town Manager, the Ipswich Police and Fire Departments, and the departments of Building, Health, and Public Works. We also appreciate the area residents for their understanding during race hours.

Ipswich-Rowley Highway Cleanup

In honor of Earth Day and our love of community, a small but intrepid group of Ipswich-Rowley Rotary volunteers braved the elements to complete our semi-annual cleanup of the two-mile segment of Route 133 between the Route 1 intersection and the Essex town line. President Tom Murphy, the club’s ‘Adopt a Highway’ Chair, was joined by President Elect Doug Shealy and Vice President Susanne Petersen.

As usual, our team collected several bags of rubbish which were later picked up by the Town DPW. Rotarians clean this section of roadway twice each year to help sustain its pristine beauty for our residents and for travelers heading towards Cape Ann.

The weekly eBulletin depends on the content provided by clubs, so please submit your stories and we will publish them on the district website and in the next eBulletin. Stories that showcase your club or event should be submitted via the website portal at this link. Your club's successes and events can give inspiration to other Rotarians.

The deadline for submitting items for the weekly District 7930 eBulletin is Friday morning in order to be included in the following Monday's edition. If the eBulletin being prepared is getting to be too long and the story submitted is not time-sensitive, we may choose to delay including it until the following week.
