RYLA Needs Your Help

Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) needs your Club’s help!

We need more students. So far, we are only 1/3 full, so please continue to spread the word. Reach out to prospective high school candidates.

We need donations. We need additional funding for the RYLA weekend. We are asking Clubs or individual Rotarians to donate to make up our shortfall. If your Club is not sponsoring a RYLA student, please consider making a donation. The cost of one student is $350. If Clubs that are not sending any students were to make a donation of $350, we will cover the costs of this vitally important event.

Donations of any size will be greatly appreciated. Mail checks payable Rotary District 7930 (with RYLA in the memo line) to Kathy Morris, Rockport Rotary Club, 2A Jerden’s Lane, Rockport, MA 01966.

Tips to find more candidates. Connect with Interact Clubs or other service organizations at the High School; National Honor Society; Trade schools in your communities; home school organizations; Scouts. We need your help to bring in more students as we reboot RYLA post pandemic.

District Assembly 2023

The District Assembly is our next step in the journey of training incoming club leaders for the upcoming Rotary year 2023-24, including the Grant Qualification Seminar, which is open to all club members.

This year we will be in-person again and will be meeting at the Four Points Sheraton in Wakefield on Wednesday, April 12.

For the Grant Qualification Seminar we recommend that each club send at least two members to attend - but there is no limit. If your club grant committee includes multiple members, it would be ideal if they could all attend and get qualified. The District Assembly is open to all Rotarians in our district!

The evening will begin at 5:30PM with five parallel tracks for:

Secretaries
Membership and PI Chairs
Foundation Chairs

Help Us Fill Symphony Hall for Rotary's New Peace Center

Districts 7930, 7910 and 7780 - Let’s join together with friends, family and community members for peace and make an impact!

Volunteers are needed to plan an exciting event that will celebrate Rotary’s new Peace Center, scheduled to open in 2024 in Istanbul, Turkey. Peace Centers are located at universities across the world – there are seven now and Istanbul will be the eighth. Rotary Peace Centers offer specially designed curricula to train individuals devoted to peacebuilding and conflict resolution. To date, more than 1,500 people have been trained and serve in governments and NGO’s throughout the world.

This project, spearheaded by District 7930’s District Governor Elect Lori Karas, was inspired by a group in Israel who produces musical events. They create a three-part harmony by bringing people together in a large space and dividing them into various parts to sing. On Saturday, April 22, 2023, Rotary Districts 7890, 7910, and 7930 will come together at the Burlington Marriott for a 3 District Conference with Keynote Speaker Evan Burrell who's come all the way from Australia to talk to us.

The conference begins at 9:00 AM with registration, coffee, and snacks, followed by the business meeting at 10:00 AM. Our Paul Harris Recognition & Awards Presentation Luncheon will be at noon. Twelve afternoon breakout sessions will be presented in four parallel tracks from 2:00 - 5:00 PM. Fellowship, cocktails and hors d'oeuvres will be at 5:00 PM, followed by a festive dinner with keynote speaker Evan Burrell.

Beverly Presents Donations to Police and Fire

On Thursday, March 23, the Beverly Rotary Club presented a $2,500 grant each to the Beverly Police Department and the Beverly Fire Department for a total of $5,000.

On hand to receive the checks were Lt. Brad Saunders and Firefighter Scott Perkins of the Fire Department and Chief John LeLacheur of the Beverly Police Department. Also attending the ceremony was Mayor Mike Cahill and City Council President Julie Flowers.

Presenting the check on behalf of the Rotary Club was President Mike Jones.

BBR Supports Mental Health Awareness

On Thursday, March 23, Burlington Breakfast Rotary was pleased to donate 20 copies each of three books on mental health awareness to Christine Conceison, District Director of Mental Health for the Burlington School System and the Burlington Public Library. These three books, What Made Maddy Run by Kate Fagan, The Deepest Well by Nadine Burke Harris, and My Living Will, A Father’s Story of Loss & Hope by John Trautwein, will be the subject of discussion at a book club being held at the Burlington Public Library in April, May and June. Our club is honored to be a part of addressing this important issue.

Interact Helping People at Home and around the World

Several leaders of the Ipswich High School Interact Club were on hand last Thursday morning, at the regular meeting of the sponsoring Ipswich-Rowley Rotary club, to update the Rotarians on their 2022-23 projects. During the meeting, Interact presented a check to 'The Open Door' food pantry, which serves the Cape Ann region from their locations in Gloucester and Ipswich.

The club also informed us of their progress in providing micro-loans to small business operators in developing countries in Africa and South America. We learned that the micro loan project is administered through Kiva, a non-profit organization that “allows people to lend money to low-income entrepreneurs and students in 80 countries. Kiva’s mission is to expand financial access to help underserved communities thrive.” These loans are slowly paid back over time, enabling the club to help more people.

Wilmington's Polar Plunge Success

Congratulations, Wilmington Rotary Club on such a Successful Polar Plunge Event on Saturday, March 25, 2023!

Thank you to all of our Wilmington Rotary Members, our Rotary Interact Members, and their families, friends and neighbors who came out in such great numbers for Saturday's Polar Plunge at Silver Lake to benefit District 7930's Polio Plus Fundraiser.

Seventeen Interact Members and two Adults, including President Greg and a friend whom he challenged, participated in the plunge which has so far raised $1,750 on our Go Fund Me page, and our Rotary Club will be making an additional donation of $475.00, pushing us to at least $2,225.00! We don't have a tally as yet on any Venmo or Mail-in payments but we will keep the GoFundMe link up for a few more days. It would be great if we can push that total over $2,500!

Lynn Recognizes Outstanding 8th Graders

On March 30, 2023, the Rotary Club of Lynn continued with its tradition of recognizing 8th grade students from Lynn Middle Schools. These are students who have struggled with some adversity during the school year or have shown empathy toward others in an outstanding way.

The students are nominated by their teacher or guidance counselor, someone who knows the student very well. The students are invited to a luncheon meeting of the members and are individually presented with a gift certificate to a local bookstore, a Certificate of Achievement, and a $25 gift certificate to open an account at the River Works Credit Union, the program sponsor. During the individual presentations a narrative is read by the Club President or his designee enumerating the various situations the students struggled with and how they were overcome. During the program Dr, Raymond Bastarache, former past Club President and former Deputy Superintendent of Schools, spoke on the importance of this program. He said: “one can tell how valued this program is to the City of Lynn by the people in attendance.” He then went on the introduce the Chief of Police, Chris Reddy, the newly appointed Fire Chief, Dan Sullivan, and the current Superintendent of Schools, Debra Ruggiero.
