Hello All! We had our first 2015-16 “Rotary Day” on August 20 at Fenway Park. We were able to raise funds for our upcoming Rotaplast mission to Cebu, Philippines! Prior to the game, we enjoyed an all-you-can-eat buffet at Uno’s Pizza in Kenmore Square and great fellowship with Rotarians, families, friends, co-workers and potential members! It was a great time.
After Uno’s, we made our way to Fenway and District 7930 was honored on the scoreboard during an on-field salute!
The highlight (for me) was not that the Sox won 4-1 against the AL leading, Kansas City Royals, but after each home inning, all of us held up beautiful signs promoting Rotary District 7930 on one side and our Cebu Rotaplast mission on the other! I would like to thank Dave Gardner for donating the signs. I would also like to thank:Tom Hankard, Amy Luckiewicz, Donna-Lee Rubin, Paul Solano, Bob Wood and many others, who made this a special night for Rotary District 7930!

In an effort to streamline the number of communications that members receive via email, the Communications and Technology Committee and the Public Image Committee have developed a new communications policy that will set standards on how all district-wide messages will be delivered. This includes stories on the website, eBulletins, press releases, social media posts and emails.
This policy does not affect internal club communications to its members nor club-to-club communications, although the branding guideline portion is still highly recommended in all printed or digital communications. In addition, district committees are free to communicate to their committees but not with the general membership without prior approval from the District Governor or chairs of the Communications and Technology Committee or Public Image.
If there is content, including photos, event notices, invitations, etc., that should be forwarded to the entire membership, it should be submitted to the story submission link. This process will allow you to determine where and when you want the story published. The choices are: district website, eBulletin, social media or all. The story will be posted within 24 hours. A story that has been requested to be included in an eBulletin will be published in the next edition normally scheduled for Mondays. It may be delayed if there is already too much content if timing is not critical.

The Membership Forum is an opportunity to learn tools for identifying new members and retaining members in our clubs. It provides a forum for networking with members from other clubs and sharing ideas. The emphasis is on creating ways to build membership and help members be engaged Rotarians.
To be effective, a Rotary club needs members. Your club’s ability to serve the community, support The Rotary Foundation, and develop leaders capable of serving Rotary beyond the club level is directly related to the size and strength of its membership base. Developing your club’s membership requires identifying and attracting potential members as well as retaining current members. New members bring fresh ideas and new energy to a club. Current members are crucial to continuing your club’s good works.
Attending the October 1st Membership Forum will provide the resources, new ideas and an opportunity to recharge your member recruitment and retention batteries!
Please register ASAP and tell all other active members of this fantastic fellowship event.
This week, Marblehead Rotary Club unveiled its newly planted islands at the corner of Maple Street and Lafayette. The club membership will like to thank Sue Wigglesworth for providing the landscape design and Rob Carr, Superior Landscaping, for all the planting and heavy lifting. Marblehead Rotary is pleased to be able to add more beauty to our community.

Last Thursday at the Marblehead Rotary Club’s weekly luncheon, Andrea Zeren, professor of psychology at Salem State, challenged the membership over the mortal danger facing elephants and rhinos through out the world. Zeren, a member of the Global March for Elephants and Rhinos (GMFER), spoke to us about the risk to human life in the face of an elephant and rhino extinction.
Are you upset at what happened to Cecil the Lion, Zeren asked? African elephants are in mortal danger; 35,000 are killed for their ivory every year. That's one elephant slaughtered every 15 minutes - and there are no signs of the massacre slowing down.
And, Zeren questioned, they die for what so that their ivory tusks can be turned into useless trinkets and decorations? She added, did you know that Boston is the fourth largest ivory market in the US?
