Due in large part to generous donations from 18 of our District Rotary Clubs (and some private gifts), the District's Rotaplast mission to Cebu, Philippines just passed the halfway mark on it's way to raising $50k. The team departs in early October and hopes to collect more money from friends, family and Rotary clubs.

At a recent Club meeting, Megan Donovan and Yaroslava Cassell were honored by the Rotary Club of Andover as their newest Paul Harris Fellows. Club President Don Gottfried presented them with their special pins, and framed proclamations.
Megan, the Club's Immediate Past President, is a native of Eagle, Idaho, and currently resides in Lowell, MA with her husband Duffy Donovan. Currently, she is Director of Business and Finance for the Lovelane Special Needs Horseback Riding Program, located in Lincoln, MA.
Yaroslava is co-Chair of Andover Rotary's Community Service Committee. A native of Russia, she emigrated to the U.S. in 2001 and considers West Springfield, MA as her "hometown." She currently lives in Salem, NH with her husband, Navy Lt. James Cassell. Yaroslava earned her BS in Chemical Engineering and a M.Eng. in Chemical Engineering from RPI in Rochester, NY. She is a Process Integration Engineer for Raytheon at their Andover facility. Among her hobbies, she and her husband are competitive ballroom dancers, and she plans to run the 2016 Boston Marathon.

On a perfect summer afternoon and on the vast green summer lawn running down towards the ocean edge, the Salem Club sponsored a successful event at the Plummers Home for boys. The event was for the children involved with the DCF. the Dept of children & families. The children in attendance are kids in foster homes. The foster boys and girls as well as the host families and any additional extended family members were invited. We had nearly 100 people attend the event.
The club's goal was to provide a fun and enjoyable experience for the kids and Rotary did just that. We had two air inflated recreational items, a bouncy house and an air slide. The club rented two ponies and offered rides to all!
Of course we also offered the standard barbeque items including hot dogs and hamburgers and chips and cookies, cotton candy as well as ice cream donated by Treadwell's ice cream.
August is designated “Ice Bucket Challenge Month” until a cure for A.L.S. is found. Last year’s enormous success was terrific, but further monies are needed for continuing the research into curing this hideous disease. Towards that end, the Wilmington Rotary Club will be holding a Community wide Ice Bucket Challenge on Saturday, August 29 at 10:00 am. The Challenge will be held, rain or shine, at Rotary Park and everyone is welcome to come and join with Rotarians with this Challenge.
Dr. Michael Cognata was inducted into the Rotary Club of Marblehead Harbor at a recent breakfast meeting. He and his wife, Dr. Corine Barone, who belongs to the Marblehead Rotary Club, have been Marblehead residents for more than 30 years. Together they maintain a practice of pediatric dentistry and orthodontics at Oliver’s Pond on Humphrey St. He has been a member of Glovers Marblehead Regiment for 25 years. From left are club president Connie Paullis, Dr. Cognata, membership chair Karyn Lang, and Secretary Lee Weed.
The Rotary Club of Marblehead Harbor meets every Tuesday at 7:15 am at the Masonic Hall.
