While flag exchanges might feel like a forgotten classic to some, Marblehead Rotary's newer members are bringing it back in a big way—and proving just how small our global network of 45,000+ clubs really is.
Recently, new member Anne Stevenson packed our club flag for a trip to England and visited the Rotary Club of Boston St. Botolph in Lincolnshire, completing a banner swap with Club President Kathleen Bryant (pictured).
The exchange carried incredible history: most of the Puritans who founded Boston, MA, hailed from Boston, Lincolnshire, and attended St. Botolph’s Church. Among them was Anne’s 10th great-grandfather, Rev. John Cotton, who served as vicar there for 21 years before emigrating to New England.
Of course, the moment wasn't without a little lighthearted irony—handing our club banner depicting American revolutionaries over to our British hosts was quite the handoff! That's a Rotary Flag Exchange with a Twist of history.
