In honor of World Polio Day, Marblehead’s two Rotary Clubs—the morning Marblehead Harbor Club and the afternoon Marblehead Rotary (Seaside) Club—came together on October 22, for a shared purpose: keeping public awareness alive for the ongoing effort to eliminate polio.

Since launching in 1979, Rotary International has maintained a steadfast focus on this cause. Even as new health crises and medical emergencies demand our attention, Rotarians remain dedicated to ensuring the fight against polio is never forgotten.

Both local clubs brought this vital mission close to home:

In the morning at Marblehead Harbor: Speaker Rick Ashley shared the deeply moving story of his father’s heroic struggle against polio, reminding us of the personal toll this disease takes on families.

Then in the afternoon at Marblehead Rotary Seaside: Linda Sullivan, Chair of our Polio Program, emphasized the importance of remembrance and reinforced our local solidarity with Rotary International's global mission.

Together, Marblehead Rotarians mark World Polio Day by honoring those impacted by the disease in the past while working to ensure future generations carry this awareness forward.
