Mini-Grants for Interact
The District Governor would like to support the revitalization of our Interact Clubs this fall. To that end we have put together a $100 mini grant for clubs to use to assist their Interact Club in doing a service project.  Applications will be available on September 1 and close on December 15.  Start talking to your Interact club now and plan a service project with them.  This can also include a service project to celebrate World Polio Day on October 23.  We are asking all Interact Clubs to plan a project to celebrate our progress towards Polio Eradication.
Calling Rotarians to Reading Fall Street Faire
Reading Rotary is holding the 13th annual Reading Fall Street Faire, as extremely popular event that brings together local restaurants, retail businesses, and community groups for a fun-filled, family-friendly day.

Downtown Reading streets will shut down for the public to stroll and enjoy local shops, restaurants, musical and dance performances, and community group booths.  Planned events include a tailgate area, cornhole tournament, children’s activity area, a vintage car show, and three stages with performances going throughout the afternoon.  There is something for everyone.

The Reading Fall Street Faire Committee is looking for help! Here’s how you can show your support:

Sponsor:  The Fall Street Faire is an enormous undertaking. It wouldn’t be possible without the sponsorship of local businesses and organizations.  This is an opportunity to get your business in front of thousands.  Many sponsorship levels are offered, to ensure all local businesses can participate. See fallstreetfaire.com or contact Jenniffer Rogers for more information.

RYLA Alums Come Together for Reunion
District 7930's RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Award) program is a two-year program.  High school students attend the RYLA weekend as first-time attendees--participating in several leadership development activities and discussions.  The following year, selected participants are invited to spend 20+ hours over five months training to be Youth Facilitators at the next RYLA weekend.  Young adults who participate in both years come away with an amazing skill set and great friends from among their peers and from the Rotarians who help guide the program!

Due to COVID, RYLA was certainly different this year!  Instead of inviting Sophomores and Juniors in High School to attend, we invited back our RYLA Alumni.  The program was held over two weekends.  In late July, a Zoom session with special speaker Tisha Hood was held.  Last weekend, an all-day in-person RYLA day was held with twenty young adults and the D7930 RYLA Committee.  The day started with a paddle on the Ipswich River, various leadership activities and sessions,  special guest speaker, a BBQ, and campfire at Camp Cedar Mill in Rowley.  Our guest speaker was the extraordinary endurance athlete Katie Spotz, who inspired the entire group with her efforts to raise funds and awareness of the issue of clean water around the world.   Learn more about Katie at www.katiespotz.com.

The RYLA Reunion was a wonderful success. All who attended were inspired to continue to serve their communities and the world beyond, and several of the attending young adults agreed to help with RYLA in the coming year!

A special Thank You to the Rotary Clubs of Malden and Ipswich for their support of our impactful day!
A Celebration of Our Heroes – Save the Date

Thursday, November 11 will be our annual Rotary Foundation event “A Celebration of Our Heroes” starting at 5:30 PM at the Danversport. The evening will include a social hour, silent auction, dinner, and Paul Harris Fellowship presentations.

All Rotary Club are invited to nominate one hero from their community to present them with a Paul Harris Fellowship (PHF) recognition at the event. Candidates could be doctors, nurses, teachers, crossing guards, essential workers, emergency services personnel, armed forces, or anyone else whom the Rotary Club believes to be a community hero – especially those heroes who rose to the challenge during the recent pandemic and helped their communities through tough times. The online nomination form is being sent to Club Presidents.

We would also like to ask all Rotary Clubs to start thinking about silent auction items: we would ideally like to see items with a minimum value of $100, so that we will have a great selection of high-value items that people will be eager to bid on! All monies raised in the silent auction will directly go to The Rotary Foundation!

There will be a program book for the event that will contain the bio for each hero as well as ads from event sponsors and local businesses to help reduce the cost of the dinner. Sponsorship and ad details will be announced in early September, and we hope that many of you will consider putting in an ad for your business to help support this event.
