The Salem Rotary Club hosted its annual Department of Children and Families (DCF) Holiday party at Kernwood Country Club, bringing joy to foster families across the North Shore. The event featured entertainment including a visit from Santa Claus himself.

Club President Carolyn Shapiro emphasized the significance of this cherished tradition, noting how Rotarians find fulfillment in bringing happiness to community families. The celebration provided over 65 children with holiday gifts and activities while enabling foster children to spend quality time with siblings who may live in separate foster homes.

Rotary members collaborated with DCF Family Resource Worker Carla King to organize the event, managing gift wrapping, transportation, setup, and cleanup.

 

At a recent “Breakfast of Champions,” hosted by the Rotary Club of Marblehead Harbor, representatives of the extensive Marblehead sailing community and leaders in the effort to improve the environment were honored. Featured speaker was Maureen McKinnon, the Paralympic sailor who won gold in the 2008 Paralympics in Beijing. (The actual medal is an exquisite circle of jade.) 

 

Paralyzed and in a wheelchair on land, Maureen found freedom and a passion for Olympic racing on the water, culminating by being the first U.S. woman to win gold with her sailing partner, the late Nick Scandone. Also honored at the catered breakfast were Marblehead sailing legends Dave Curtis and Joan Thayer. The environmentalists recognized were Lynn Nadeau, Harbor Rotary member Judith Black and the non-profit Sustainable Marblehead. Their collective work on educating the public about the importance of recycling, reusing, and repurposing has been invaluable to the town and its citizens.

 

The Rotary Club of Chelsea had as a recent guest speaker Laura Cardona, Executive Producer at NBC10BOSTON and TelemundoNI.

 

Laura produces the morning news programs.  She explained how it is determined what news stories are included in each newscast.  Laura also described how the stories are developed.  Laura also related how she became interested in the reporting of news and her experiences prior to joining NBC10BOSTON.

All Rotary members should make promoting Rotary's Public Image a priority.  Promoting PI is a proven strategy to increase your club's impact and add members.

 

Wakefield Rotary has issued a Club Public Image Challenge to its members.  Wakefield's PI Committee, headed up by Amy Luckiewicz, has instituted this challenge to encourage members to participate in sharing on social media.

 

At Beverly Rotary's last meeting in December, we had a wonderful atmosphere when the Beverly High School Jazz Band, under the direction of Adam Costa, came to add joy to our meeting. They played so many wonderful songs. We even got to sing-along!  This is an annual tradition at our Club. We presented Adam with a $500 check towards expenses of the Jazz Club.

Two days after that, a great group of 55 Rotarians stood at 4 locations, ringing their bells for donations for the Salvation Army. This is an annual event started by Jack Good many years ago.
