Donations Still Needed for Rotaplast Mission

Our Rotaplast Mission is still in need of financial support. The Rotaplast Mission to Cebu, which we had sponsored for many years, is scheduled for March 2024. Rotaplast sends multidisciplinary medical teams to provide free reconstructive surgery, ancillary treatment, and training for the comprehensive care of children with cleft palates/lips and other deformities.

The cost of the mission is $88,000 to be raised throughout the district. Sponsoring clubs should contribute at least one surgery ($800) or raise the equivalent. Donations from individuals will also be gratefully accepted. If you have questions, please contact Terry Curran at 617-501-3521 or TerryCurran7930@gmail.com.

Terry is available to visit your club and make a presentation, please reach out. Checks can be made payable to Rotaplast and sent to our Rotaplast Treasurer at Eagle Bank, Attention: Stephen Miliotis, 350 Broadway, Everett, MA 02151.

Promoting Rotary with Social Media

Social media can connect your club with current and past members, prospective members, donors, and friends. Using it is also an effective way to increase your community’s awareness of your club and its activities.

Getting started. Make social media a part of your communications toolkit, along with email, newsletters, and your website.

Create a social media plan to help you determine what you want to achieve through social media, which platforms are right for your club, and what you want to communicate to your online community.

Step 1 – Setting goals

After you decide what you want to accomplish through social media, set goals to track your progress. Keep your goals specific and measurable. When you’re writing or sharing a post, ask yourself, “Will this help us reach our goals?”

Ipswich Interact Hosts Jingle Bell Walk

Santa Claus is coming to town at 11 am on December 14. Gather with your family at Ipswich Town Wharf on East Street to greet Santa as he arrives with a little help from his friends at the Ipswich Fire Department. Then accompany the Jolly Elf, the Grinch, Buddy the Elf, and the Interact elves for a joyful Jingle Bell Walk on Water Street along the scenic Ipswich River to Town Hall.

At Town Hall, Interact will host Santa’s Village, full of fun, prizes and auctions. The youngsters can visit Santa, and everyone can bring joy to other children by donating an unwrapped toy to North Shore Kids. Entertainment also will be provided by the Ipswich High School String Quartet. And for a small fee you can enjoy yummy food served by Rotarians and Interactors in the Council on Aging cafeteria.

For the 14th year, this annual community celebration of the season is produced and hosted by the Ipswich High School Interact, a community service club sponsored by Ipswich-Rowley Rotary and the Ipswich Public Schools. The event also benefits Wellspring House in Gloucester.

Amesbury Title Town Raffle Dec. 17

Amesbury Rotary’s Title Town Sports Raffle drawing is coming up on December 17th. Get a start on your holiday shopping and help support the work Rotary does in our community, awarding college scholarships to Amesbury High School students.

Lynn's 102nd Football Lunch

The 102nd annual pre-Thanksgiving Football Luncheon, hosted by Lynn Rotary, was held on Tuesday, November 26 at the Lynn Knights of Columbus. The luncheon is to get the Captains from the five Lynn High School football teams together for a friendly gathering before the Thanksgiving games. Also included were the Cheerleader Captains and the Band Director. The event Chairperson, State Representative-Elect Sean Reid, Classical alumnus and Rotarian, said: “It’s such a unique environment with so many teams. As a community, we want to highlight it.”

This year marks the 110th Thanksgiving game between Classical and English. This luncheon was started in 1920 when only Classical and English High Schools existed, now there are five High Schools: Classical, English, Technical Vocational, St. Mary’s, and KIPP Academy. It is thought that some of the boys at the first luncheon had fathers who did not survive World War I, and it was a way for Rotary to remember them. This year marked the 102nd gathering. Mayor Jared Nicholson spoke about how the players will look back at the game with fond memories, win or lose, he said, “These moments are so special for all of us.” He thanked the Rotary Club for hosting the event for 102 years.

The weekly eBulletin depends on the content provided by clubs, so please submit your stories and we will publish them on the district website and in the next eBulletin. Stories that showcase your club or event should be submitted via the website portal at this link. Your club's successes and events can give inspiration to other Rotarians.

The deadline for submitting items for the weekly District 7930 eBulletin is Friday morning in order to be included in the following Monday's edition. If the eBulletin being prepared is getting to be too long and the story submitted is not time-sensitive, we may choose to delay including it until the following week.
