Donations Still Needed for Rotaplast Mission

Our Rotaplast Mission is still in need of financial support. The Rotaplast Mission to Cebu, which we had sponsored for many years, is scheduled for March 2024. Rotaplast sends multidisciplinary medical teams to provide free reconstructive surgery, ancillary treatment, and training for the comprehensive care of children with cleft palates/lips and other deformities.

The cost of the mission is $88,000 to be raised throughout the district. Sponsoring clubs should contribute at least one surgery ($800) or raise the equivalent. Donations from individuals will also be gratefully accepted. If you have questions, please contact Terry Curran at 617-501-3521 or TerryCurran7930@gmail.com.

Terry is available to visit your club and make a presentation, please reach out. Checks can be made payable to Rotaplast and sent to our Rotaplast Treasurer at Eagle Bank, Attention: Stephen Miliotis, 350 Broadway, Everett, MA 02151.

Be Bold, Get Cold for Polio

We saw the first few snowflakes this past week and it is now time to plan your Polar Plunge to raise funds for Polio Eradication!

We are inviting all clubs to organize a local Polar Plunge in their community (hence Distributed). Pick any date this winter (i.e. between now and Opening Day at Fenway Park). Plunge any way you want (ocean, dunk tank, swimming pool, jacuzzi, etc.)

Your club can do it alone or partner with other clubs around you. The Belle Isle Rotary and Parkway Rotary Clubs are organizing a joint event on Saturday, February 1, 2025. The doors will open at 9am and the plunge will take place at 11am (which is high tide and there is a ramp we walk down and plunge from!) So, if you want to join them, please reach out and RSVP to Joe Steffano, Vera Carducci, Tom Hankard or Terry Rezendes Curran.

Chelsea Hosts WBZ's Jacob Wycoff

The Rotary Club of Chelsea had as their guest speaker at a recent meeting, WBZ Meteorologist Jacob Wykoff. Mr. Wykoff gave a background on how he got into the weather forecasting profession, how weather is forecast, the expected accuracy rate and why the weather varies within the eastern Massachusetts region. He took questions for 15 minutes and answered most. Also hosted as guest of the Club were the 2024 -2025 officers of the Chelsea High School Interact Club.

Woburn Serves Up Breakfast for Seniors

Twice a year the Rotary Club of Woburn takes over the kitchen at the Woburn Senior Center and cooks a hot breakfast for about 65 senior citizens. Lead by Rotarian and chef Jim Major, the Rotarians make scrambled eggs, sausage, pancakes and strawberries while the seniors are entertained by the Irish/American musician Mossie Caughlan. Dunkin' helps to sponsor the event by providing coffee. It's always a fun time and the seniors appreciate and enjoy the morning with breakfast and sing-along favorite tunes by Mossie.

In Memory of Stephen Riley

Stephen E. Riley, a Lynnfield Rotarian, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, December 4, 2024. He was 57 years old.

Born on April 4, 1967, in Everett, Stephen was the son of the late Joseph E. Riley, Jr. and Marilyn Louise (English) Riley. He was a proud alumnus of UMass Amherst and demonstrated a strong commitment to his community throughout his life in Lynnfield. Stephen actively participated in various local organizations, including the Lynnfield Rotary, youth sports programs, and the finance committee.

In addition to his community involvement, Stephen was a member of the Masons and the Elks. A passionate sports fan and golf enthusiast, he also had a fondness for western movies. Above all, he cherished the time spent with his family.

He was the loving husband of Michelle L. (Wasak) and the adoring father of Spencer J. Riley and Vanessa B. Riley, both of Lynnfield. He was the brother of Kathi Yergin and her husband Jerry of Lison Falls, ME and Richard Riley and his significant other Julie of Peabody. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

The weekly eBulletin depends on the content provided by clubs, so please submit your stories and we will publish them on the district website and in the next eBulletin. Stories that showcase your club or event should be submitted via the website portal at this link. Your club's successes and events can give inspiration to other Rotarians.

The deadline for submitting items for the weekly District 7930 eBulletin is Friday morning in order to be included in the following Monday's edition. If the eBulletin being prepared is getting to be too long and the story submitted is not time-sensitive, we may choose to delay including it until the following week.
