In Memoriam PDG 2014-15 Val Callahan

Dear Rotarians:

It’s with a heavy heart I bring to you the passing of Past District Governor, Mary Valentine Callahan - “Val Callahan,” as she was known.  For over 30 years Val had been a Rotarian, beginning in District 7910, where she was Club President, Foundation Chair, GSE leader, Assistant Governor and District Governor 2014-15.  When Val moved to Boston, the Boston #7 club welcomed her.  She became the club’s Foundation Chair.  Val was a Major Donor, Sustainer and Bequest Society Member.

She will be missed by Rotarians both near and far.  Val leaves behind her husband, Rotarian Mohamed Elhanash, her two grown children and their families.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, at 10:00AM on August 26, 2023 at Trinity Church, 206 Clarendon St, Boston, MA 02111.

All are welcome to attend.
Military Veterans Club Newsletter
Earlier this year, District 7930 advanced the idea of creating a Club designed to attract veterans and active or retired military looking to serve in their local communities.  There are already a number of great groups that are serving the needs of these individuals, but we thought with Rotary's vast network and commitment to service that there could be a way to be a resource.

The 1st goal was to identify any current members who are veterans to give us feedback and to learn what clubs are already doing to support their local veterans.  We received responses from about 20 clubs that have 80+ veterans serving in Rotary in our district.  Service projects range from Flag of Heroes celebrations to food service to homeless Veterans.

If your club did not get a chance to reply to the survey please take a few minutes to complete via this link https://forms.gle/1AnUjnZ7QuGCF4jv6

Stoneham Celebrates 100th Anniversary
Having forty-seven guests at the 2023 Installation and Awards Dinner for Stoneham Rotary was exciting. It was a great year: back to in-person meetings with speakers, two new members and an incredibly active youth program. Oh, and it was also our club's 100th Anniversary of Service Above Self.

The club members sponsored three RYLA attendees, sweatshirts for our Interact members, and financial assistance with airfare for Nicole, the Interact President, to travel to Belgium for a short-term exchange.

Five Paul Harris Awards were presented; three to Rotarians and two to Interactors. Congrats to Janice Houghton (+3) for her superb work as secretary, Craig Celli (+1) for his unfailing effort in membership and planning service projects, and finally, Adam Rodgers (+1) for his exceptional work with RYLA and Interact. The amazing truth is that every one of these Rotarians serves the community in so many other roles.
