It is now time to plan your Polar Plunge to raise funds for Polio Eradication!  Here are the top ten clubs in Polio giving through Jan. 31:

 

All clubs are asked to organize a local Polar Plunge in their community (hence Distributed). Pick any date this winter (i.e. between now and Opening Day at Fenway Park). Plunge any way you want (ocean, dunk tank, swimming pool, jacuzzi, etc.)  Be creative to organize another event to raise funds for Polio Eradication.  

 

Our goal is to raise as much money as possible to End Polio Now, and we’ll publish a ranking of clubs weekly (hence Competitive). Please make sure that you send all the monies that you raised directly to The Rotary Foundation to be credited to the Polio Plus Fund. Our published results will be based on the reports from the Rotary Foundation, so only funds actually sent to the Foundation will be counted for the ranking!

Our Rotaplast Mission needs additional financial support to make our goal.  We would like to acknowledge and thank those clubs who have already donated: Belle Isle, Rockport, Lexington, Newburyport, Somerville, Winchester, Parkway, Wakefield, Gloucester, Andover, Marblehead Harbor, Chelsea, Manchester-Essex, Reading, Swampscott, Woburn and Burlington, as well as the many individuals who have donated, and generous support from the District in the form of a District Managed Grant, but we still need more funds. 

 

The Rotaplast Mission is scheduled for March 8, 2025.  Rotaplast sends multidisciplinary medical teams to provide free reconstructive surgery, ancillary treatment, and training for the comprehensive care of children with cleft palates/lips and other deformities.

The cost of the mission is $88,000 to be raised throughout the district. We have raised in donations and pledges approximately $65,000.  We hope all District 7930 clubs will support the Mission with the cost of at least one surgery -- $800.  Donations from individuals will also be gratefully accepted.  If you have questions, please contact Terry Curran at 617-501-3521 or TerryCurran7930@gmail.com.

Applications will be going live in early February, but planning and training are well underway!!  

 

Here are photos from our 1st training session that took place on January 19th with a group of very enthusiastic kids!  I really wish you could meet them all!  You would be so proud of them and of our clubs for supporting the development of these leaders.  We are once again joining forces with D7950, so we had students who came all the way from Dennis and Martha’s Vineyard to attend the training. Such commitment!  Start thinking of who you can invite to apply for this life changing weekend!

We are delighted to welcome Gina and Joe Healy, and Larry Jordan to the Ipswich-Rowley Rotary family, where we achieve more together than we can alone.

 

Larry Jordan resides in Beverly and serves as the Commander of VFW Post 1093 in Ipswich. He also is a member of American Legion Post 80 in Ipswich and of the service dog organization Canine Companions. Larry has been instrumental in raising the profile of veterans' services in Ipswich and was a leading force behind the highly successful 2024 D-Day parade and remembrance. Larry enjoys spending time with family, reading, painting, photography and traveling. His interests also include colonial history and assisting Vietnam veterans. Larry is a retired Director of Risk Management for Anheuser-Busch. Larry’s Rotary sponsor is Ipswich High School classmate Laurie Cameron. 

 

We also welcomed a couple of dedicated humanitarians who recently transferred from the Lakes Region Rotary Club in Laconia, NH after moving to Ipswich to be near family. The Healy’s are sponsored by Community Service Chair Chris Davis. 

 

Did you hear the news? The monarch butterfly is in trouble. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service recently proposed listing the monarch as a threatened species under the Endangered Species Act (ESA).

 

This is good news! We still have time to act and the ESA has a history of mobilizing resources to save at-risk species. 

 

You can help save the monarchs. By planting native milkweed and nectar plants, you'll provide critical habitat for monarchs and other pollinators.

 

Together, our community has already planted 30,000+ native milkweed plants all across the country.

The weekly eBulletin depends on the content provided by clubs, so please submit your stories and we will publish them on the district website and in the next eBulletin. Stories that showcase your club or event should be submitted via the website portal at this link.  Your club's successes and events can give inspiration to other Rotarians.

 

The deadline for submitting items for the weekly District 7930 eBulletin is Friday morning in order to be included in the following Monday's edition.  If the eBulletin being prepared is getting to be too long and the story submitted is not time-sensitive, we may choose to delay including it until the following week.
