Mini-Grants Deadline Extended
If winter never ends, how can we believe that it is spring. Well it is, and time is running out to apply for one of three types of mini-grants: membership, public image and addiction prevention. We have extended the deadline to file these applications until April 30, 2018.

Membership
Previous mini-grants were aimed at increasing membership but this series is intended to increase the engagement of new members and to help them pursue their Rotary dream. These matching fund grants will be the perfect follow up to our recent Welcome Party where more than 50 new and prospective members learned about Rotary in an exciting fashion. The requirements are that a new member (joined after 7/1/16) must be the chair of the project and they must recruit another new or existing member to implement the project. In-meeting projects are encouraged. Download the Membership Mini-Grant here!

Public Image
Consider applying for a Public Image Mini-Grant if you need updated brochures, flyers, banners or signs, a direct mail campaign, promotional products, social media campaign or advertising. Current Rotary branding guidelines must be used and you must track the impact when applicable. Be sure to have a call to action and try to expand the message to provide a secondary message. For example, if you are advertising an event, also extend an invitation to attend an upcoming meeting as a guest. Don't miss out on these matching funds to promote your critical spring and early summer events! Download the Public Image Mini-Grant here!

Addiction Prevention
Through the Lahey Health sponsorship of the World Peace and Understanding Showcase and Dinner, we have ten matching $250 mini-grants that clubs can use to provide addiction prevention education, a special speaker at a public event, Narcan training, and so many more options. It is critical that this is a public event as the goal is to decrease the stigma associated with addiction and to prepare the communities we serve for the global grant being planned for clubs in New England. Bada Bingo: The Rotante Family Murder Mystery Dinner
Bada Bingo: The Rotante Family Murder Mystery Dinner The Chelsea Rotary Club proudly announces, and invites you to join us, at our 2018 Fundraiser on April 26, 2018 at 6:00 P.M. at the Homewood Suites by Hilton 145 Beech Street, Chelsea.

Bada Bingo: The Rotante Family Murder Mystery Dinner will be a wonderfully entertaining night of comedy, mystery, and live music bingo. Our goal is to raise at least $20,000 to support our Club’s college scholarships, Project Fire Recovery, and many other local projects for children, the elderly, veterans and homeless families. Last year, thanks to your support, in addition to awarding six $1,500.00 college scholarships to deserving high school seniors living in Chelsea, we started a Pantry of Necessities that provides toiletries and other essentials to homeless children attending Chelsea schools.

Please join us for an evening of good food, fun and surprises, all to support a wonderful cause.

Newburyport Fundraiser Raises $13k
Newburyport Rotary annual Chef's Table DinnerThe Newburyport Rotary Club held its annual Chef's Table Dinner on Tuesday, March 20, where ten chefs cook tableside for ten diners. Local restaurants donate their chefs, food and time preparing a variety of cuisines, which are not typical everyday restaurant choices. The Chefs enjoyed being creative and diners were the recipients of something unusual. One of our chefs, Jen Normand from Sea Level, was a former contestant on the television program, Hell's Kitchen!

During the cocktail hour, guests were able to bid on silent auction items and our special wine raffle of 50 plus bottles of wine. We were able to raise almost $13,000 to go to local charities.
Lynn Vocational Technical Institute Presentation
Lynn Vocational Technical Institute’s SkillsUSA leadership teamAt a recent meeting of the Lynn Rotary Club,, members heard a most impressive presentation from the SkillsUSA leadership team at Lynn Vocational Technical Institute. The students presented their year long, community service project, “The Welcome Home Project”. Erick Martinez, Erick Hernandez and Club President David Barrios each shared in detail, accompanied by a slide presentation, how the project came about and how club members rallied the entire LVTI student body of some 800 students to get behind the initiative. The aim of the project was to celebrate and aid in Lynn’s accomplishment of being the first Massachusetts city to effectively end veteran homelessness.

Reading Recognizes Eagle Scouts
Reading Rotary John Halsey presents Eagle Scouts with Certificates from RotaryOn April 7, Reading Rotarian and Eagle Scout John Halsey presented certificates of congratulations to Troop 702's new Eagle Scouts, Ben House and Bryan Doucette at their Eagle Court of Honor. John has been working with District Governor David Gardner to strengthen the partnership between Rotary and Scouting. John is also on a Council Member for the Spirit of Adventure Council, which includes Reading. John has been busy attending Eagle Courts of Honor in Reading as Troop 702 (sponsored by Old South Church) and Troop 728 (sponsored by St. Agnes) have been producing a lot of Scouts reaching the Eagle rank. In his remarks during the Court of Honor, John said that Reading is known in the Spirit of Adventure Council as the Eagle's Nest because the town has produced more Eagle Scouts over the past 12 years than any other municipality in the Council, including Boston and much larger cities and towns.

Rotary Friendraisers Work!
Boston Downtown club friend-raiserThis spring, the Downtown Boston Rotary Club held their first Friendraiser at Sacco Bowling/Flat Bread.

Friendraisers give Rotarians the opportunity to network, visit and meet with the public to explain to interested and prospective members what they can achieve through Rotary membership. At this event, like all other events this year, Downtown Boston Rotary Club collected socks for Friends of Boston’s Homeless. The goal is to donate 10,000 socks by July 1. Thank you to everyone who donated and participated in this great event!

This Friendraiser was made possible by a generous mini-grant from District 7930.
A More ADA-Friendly Website
AltText Clubrunner ExampleIs your website accessible to people of all abilities?

Clubrunner websites are fairly accessible to individuals using a screen reader for the internet.  However, in order to make your website more accessible, you need to include "Alternative Text" for all of your images.

In Clubrunner, when you place an image on the website or in an email, you will see a screen similar to the screenshot here.  The Alternative Text field should have an entry that briefly describes the image being used.  When a person uses a screen reader to access your webpage/email, the reader will include the Alternative Text to describe the image.

It's simple to do and makes your website more ADA friendly.
Share Your Club's Stories
Has your club recently hosted an event or project or are you planning something in the near future that you would like to share with your fellow District 7930 Rotarians?

The weekly eBulletin depends on the content provided by clubs, so please submit your stories and we will publish them on the district website and in the next eBulletin. Stories that showcase your club or event should be submitted via the website portal at this link.

The deadline for submitting items for the weekly District 7930 eBulletin is Friday morning in order to be included in the following Monday's edition.  If the eBulletin being prepared is getting to be too long and the story submitted is not time-sensitive, we may choose to delay including it until the following week.

If you want some guidelines on creating stories, please read more!
