World Peace and Understanding Dinner and Showcase

District 7930 held its World Peace and Understanding Dinner and Showcase at the DoubleTree by Hilton on Wednesday evening, February 28th. This event was organized to help educate Rotarians on the issues of addiction and to build a network of collaboration between Rotary, government and the service organizations who provide programs aimed at prevention, treatment and recovery.

This extraordinary event would not have been possible without the generous support of Lahey Health.

Over 200 attendees participated in the Showcase and Dinner, learning from the 32 Showcase exhibitors about the services they provide.  The event speakers describe the opioid epidemic; addiction preventive education; and government actions to treat addiction as both a behavioral health issue as well as a criminal act. Dr. Barry Ginsberg, from Lahey Health Behavioral Services, Heidi Heilman, CEO of Edventi, and Marian Ryan, the Middlesex County District Attorney shared their experiences and recommendations to overcome the opioid crisis. District Governor Dave Gardner announced a program by Lahey Health to fund 10 matching mini-grants to Rotary Clubs in District 7930 to implement projects in the area of addiction. He also thanked Lahey for sponsoring the Showcase and for funding complimentary tickets to the exhibitors to thank them for the great work they are doing in our communities. The appeal was made for Rotarians to offer their vocational skills to these organizations to help them fulfill their mission and to provide opportunities for service as we continue this year’s theme, Rotary: Making a Difference.

Rotary Summit at Mount Washington - May 4-6, 2018

Will you be among those who will be part of history as five districts around New England gather at the beautiful Mount Washington Hotel for the year end celebration for the 2017-2018 Rotary year?

There are already 425 registered and we have space for another 100-150, maybe more. Although there are only a few rooms left at the Mount Washington Lodge, there are many 2-5 bedroom townhouses that are part of the Mount Washington campus as well as many other properties in the area including hotels, ski lodges and private homes. Once registered, you can visit the website that manages the Mount Washington properties or check out Airbnb for a host of other options.

Imagine meeting Rotarians and friends from the states and provinces that these district serve, including Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont and Quebec. The international flair will be similar to the International Convention but on a smaller scale. All of the benefits will be present and a wide array of programming to support you and your club in building the future of Rotary. Keynote speakers, including Ian Riseley, President of Rotary International, and other amazing people who exemplify the Power of One. Come hear and interact with our keynote speakers, participate in active discussion at the roundtable breakouts on Saturday afternoon, package meals in our service project led by youth from our YSE, Interact and Rotaract programs, enjoy the great lineup of entertainment throughout the weekend and mostly, share your passions with other Rotarians who are always Making a Difference.

Arbor Day Tree Planting Project
Do you want to work on a project that has little or no cost, provides a significant environmental impact and will be great for Rotary's public image?

Then consider having your club participate in the Arbor Day Project. Our RI President, Ian Riseley, has asked that every Rotarian plant one tree before Arbor Day which is on April 27th. The district will be purchasing enough trees for every member of every club. Click the "Read More" button below for details on club responsibilities.
So, are you interested in making this happen? If so, please send me an email here and someone will send you additional details. Download the Arbor Day Information Sheet here!
