The Unsung Hero Event is fast approaching. There are three things you need to do prior to November 8th. The first is get together a table to celebrate your hero at the event. We will be presenting the awards, by a calling the honorees up to the front of the room with the President of the Club that is honoring them. The President will put the Paul Harris Recognition medallion on their honoree, and DG Bob Wood will present them with the certificate and Paul Harris Pin. We need some folks from your club to cheer all of this on.

The second is to get together a basket to be auctioned off during cocktails. The basket should have things that are reflective your community, no need to go beyond $100 value, and let Betsy Manzelli btzmnz1@gmail.com  know that you are bringing one. All proceeds will go to the Annual Fund of the Rotary Foundation.

And finally, come on November 8th, celebrate your hero, celebrate yourselves for being the inspiration always!

Peabody Sponsors Progeria Research 5K Comfort Station
Following the lead of Paul Harris and his Chicago #1 club, the Peabody Rotary Club was the sponsor of a public comfort station (aka a porta-a-potty) for the annual Progeria Research Foundation 5K Road Race. The very first Rotary project in 1905 was a public comfort station in Chicago. (Click the "Read More" link below to see a picture of the 1905 project.)

The Progeria Research Foundation is one of the local charities that the Peabody club supports. The event was held on Saturday, September 8th, and several racers were grateful to have the facilities available. Many Peabody Rotarians participated and a few did very well in the event. Dan Vassallo and his wife Katrina were the men’s and women’s winners; Chief Tom Griffin came in 2nd place in his age group; and Peggy Pedro came in 2nd place in her age group of walkers.

Marblehead President Honored
Andy and Jessica Barnett members of the Rotary Club or Marblehead Harbor and - as importantly, members of Marblehead Little Theatre ("MLT"), presented one of its first-even "Ginny Awards" to Alexander Falk, President, Marblehead Rotary Club.

For many years - Falk has served as Trustee of MLT and given generously and sincerely of his time to help maintain and improve the Firehouse, MLT's permanent "home". His commitment to the theater will have a lasting impact on the theatre and the surrounding community.

Ginny Morton has been the heart, soul and spirit of MLT. It was her vision to give MLT a permanent home. Ultimately, the Firehouse on School Street, Marblehead became the manifestation of of Ginny's vision.

Falk was away when the award was given out at the MLT Gala and so the Barnetts graciously came to our club's weekly luncheon to honor our deserving president.
Do You Want to Support Rotary's Initiative on Addiction Prevention?
Did you know that there is a Rotary Initiative underway to provide Addiction Prevention Education to our communities and it is going regional and maybe global?

The first community forum was held in May and there are almost a dozen being planned around New England and interest is spreading to New York, New Jersey, Halifax, Vancover and beyond.

Would you like to be apart of this initiative in your community, the district or beyond? If so, please consider joining the new Addiction Prevention Task Force in District 7930 and support the efforts of clubs and members who want to add addiction prevention support to Make a Difference! We need help in promoting the initiative, speaking at clubs and supporting clubs that decide to host Community Forums and implement the school based curriculum in their high schools.
