Environmental/Public Image Mini Grant
Is your club interested in participating in the Fall Mini Grants that have just opened?  The new Environmental Committee suggests you plan now to participate in the “No Mow May” initiative this spring.

We are working on a template for lawn signs.  You customize it with your Club name and they are ready to print.  We also have flyers that explain “No Mow May” for you to print and disperse and a template to pledge to support “No Mow May”.

For further information and templates contact Environment Committee Chair Terry Curran at TerryCurran7930@gmail.com.

Duplicate books from the DG library
In my monthly District Governor email a few days ago I had invited Rotary Clubs to do a project during Basic Education and Literacy Month (September) and perhaps build a "Little Library" in their community:

"September is Basic Education and Literacy Month. If your club has not done a District Managed Grant this year you might consider this area of focus. Build a “Little Library” with your Interact Club or your local scout troop and stock it with books. Do a project with your local library or school library, even set up a reading club or afterschool program. Consider purchasing books in languages other than English to donate. Many libraries only have a limited supply."

I want to follow up on this invitation with an offer. In recent months, Nora and I have gone through our library and removed a whole series of duplicate books that had accumulated over the years. We'd be happy to donate these books to any Rotary Club who actually wants to build such a "Little Library". It's about 250 books, mostly English and German, about evenly split 50:50.

Ipswich-Rowley's Global Grant Approved by RI
Save the Ipswich River & Watershed: The Lifeblood of Our Communities Global Grant has been approved by RI. It couldn't have come at a better time. The Ipswich River is rated one of the top 10 endangered rivers in the US. Currently the river is facing its worst drought ever. “To be blunt, the river is dead,” said Wayne Castonguay, executive director at the Ipswich River Watershed Association (IRWA). As of Aug. 30, the river plummeted through all previous drought records when it reached zero flow. Last week, the U.S. Geological Survey recorded a mere trickle at 0.07 cubic feet per second. “Basically at zero,” Castonguay said.

A Rare Find
Greater Salem NH Rotary members helped with the cleanup and beatification of the ADA accessible pathways at Sunset Hill Educational Institute (SHEI) and the Wheelchair Health in Motion (WHIM) Bradford, NH.  SHEI has over 2,000 feet of hard packed gravel pathways with ADA bathroom accommodations.  SHEI is a safe space in a private setting for individuals of all walks of life and disabilities to gather and embrace the peaceful countryside and spectacular vistas.

Women in Rotary Spotlight:  Pooja Singla
As the Rotary International President, Jennifer Jones is already proving, 'Skies are the limit' once the glass ceiling has been broken.  She is already setting the bar high and motivating all of us to think out of the box with her theme 'Imagine Rotary!'

Pooja Singla, one of the Assistant Governors for District 7930 this year, said she cannot imagine herself in Rotary without two specific women.

"When I was promoted to be the president elect with the support of my club's members, I was really nervous if I would be able to fulfill those responsibilities that I was committing to. No one could hear my voice across the table. I was so shy of speaking.  Then I met Joan Arsenault, in March 2019.  She was going to be the DG when I was starting as President.
